How has 2011 been for you? Mine has been hectic I hardly have time to blog! These days I got lazy. I read your posts from my Android. But I am not so deft with my fingers that I can post using my cellphone. Some of you have this app on your Iphone. Still, how you manage to write full posts on such a small screen amazes me.
Starting of the year was bad due to work... but if I concentrate hard on the postiive and happy, the unhappiness and bitter aftertaste just fades...with time of course. And it's easier with happy times. January has always been a busy month for me. Usually there is a party/dinner/lunch every weekend for January for my birthday. Then it follows with LNY. Just after the infamous bus party, LNY followed.
Bestie and I decided to take the tradition to Zouk. Staying up as late as 5am on NYE. Until someone told me, Shou Sui is supposed to be done at home! But hey, everywhere is home if there is retro music! Countless signs of square room and summer rain later, we trudged home in the wee hours.
Only to wake at 10am the next day. 5 hours of sleep. And its off visiting. I remember making a pact with Bestie to cease partying for 2 months. The late nights are showing signs on my already imperfect skin. It's tradition that we always visit our neighbours from our old estate. As far as I can remember, we were welcomed to play in their homes. Mum and Auntie were like sisters. Ran out of sugar? Borrow some from auntie. Needed to run an urgent errand? Auntie could always keep an on us. I remember when sis and me would go to the market with Mum and Auntie. The 2 korkors would take care of us while they 2 mums brave the wet market to scour for the freshest catch. Over the years, we've kept in touch even though we've moved. Auntie is now the proud grandman of a girl and a boy. It's always much fun to play with babies and kids. But this year both were not there. Still, mum and dad caught up with them like old times. As always do. While me and sis had to fend off the "When is your turn?" arrows.
Then its off to 2nd uncle's at Serangoon. If there is a must-go place. I'd have insisted that 2nd uncle cannot be missed. Because, they serve the yummiest lunch ever. Ngor Hiang, Chicken Curry, Chap Chye, Pig Stomach Soup. ALL MY FAVE. Of course I gorge like there is no tomorrow. Hee. Of course kenah more "When is your turn?" This year, got it big time from 4th uncle and aunt. Maybe its my moustache.
"So old liao still get ang bao leh.... auntie wait to drink your tea until wrinkled already!"
Aiyah auntie, you look younger every year I see you. I not worried. (Secretly proud of my comeback line) But ever since she retired and have 2 grandkids, auntie did look younger and younger every year.
Formula:- Retirement+spend time with kids= Youth
By then my 5 hours only of sleep was starting to punish me. We made our way to 1st uncle's house where I was ushered to a room to nap. Did I mention I was terribly spoilt when I was a kid by all my uncles... ? Apparently, nephews never grow up in the uncles' eyes. =) I love my uncles to bits. 1st uncle loved me a lot. Even now, when he is near his 70ties, when we get on the mrt... he goes "Ah Bee! You sit!" when there is a seat.
The day ended with me heading out to collect my pressie I left at a place. Knocked down a few drinks and headed back home. Oh, worthy mention, managed to see
d8nnis in person. =)
