Sarah Jane Adventures!
Oh, my god. It's happened. After two and a half seasons with episodes ranging from brilliant to mediocre, it's finally happened.
The Sarah Jane Adventures has finally had a story that was total crap.
It was your basic "scientifically minded show does a ghost story wherein the ghosts are proven to be of perfectly explainable scientific origin, except in the last thirty seconds where something GHOSTLY happens." SJA isn't exactly full of shocking twists and turns, but it's usually at least original. It was really disappointing to see it do such a by-the-numbers story.
And the guest actors, man, WHAT THE FUCK. One of them making incredibly questionable acting choices (so your character is completely boring with no personality or any indication whatsoever that he is not in fact a sentient plank of wood? Okay then), one really irritating and hammy ones (John Barrowman thinks you should tone it down there, dude, even if your character is named Erasmus Darkening, not even making that up), and one - okay, I can't pick on the guy stuck playing Count Whoever, since the character consisted entirely of tired Noble Renaissance Man clichés and I just don't know how anyone could have made that not suck.
OH, AND LUKE WASN'T THERE. That should've been the first warning sign right there.
And after the awesomeness of last week, too. Blech. The only good thing I can say is that, with SJA having stepped into Supernatural's territory right after SPN followed SJA's Trickster story with a story about its own Trickster (you can read that again, I'll wait), I now really want a story with Sarah Jane and Dean working together to defeat something and arguing the entire time about whether it's alien or supernatural. That would be fun.
Speaking of fun, I am wicked stoked about next week. "The Revenge of the Mona Lisa"? With a painting attacking people and Luke apparently experiencing teenage rebellion? It's going to be pure crack. And I won't be able to stop quoting Walter Pater. I cannot WAIT.
