A turn of luck. New job and weight loss.

YAY! I'm not pregnant! For a few days there I was worried. We would have been very excited and happy if I had been, but (ideally) we'd like to be better financially prepared for a baby.

Speaking of which, it appears Aaron's luck has turned.

It's been a rough past 5 months with him being unemployed. It seemed like we had nothing but bad luck. But last week Aaron won a raffle prize, found an old Gander Mountain gift card, and got a new blackberry pearl for $1.05. And then...

Last weekend I was in a crappy mood because I've been dieting and working out and hadn't been losing weight, so we went window shopping. We didn't intend to spend anything because it's been financially difficult for us, but I just wanted to get out. Not only did I fit into smaller items, but we saw a 'Now Hiring' sign at Younkers. We haven't seen a help wanted sign in about 3 years. I told Aaron he should apply even though I knew he wouldn't love the job, but because he needed to find something - anything - in the meantime. We went back a few days later, went to the back where you could apply online, and he did the online search (while I ran to another store) and found there weren't any open positions posted for the location. He inquired about this and the store manager came out to chat with him. Aaron said he would prefer 'something in the back' if they had any openings. She asked him to come back with his resume for a meeting the next morning. He went in the next day, she looked over his resume, and said that she had a gut feeling about him and wanted him to be a manager! :O She told Aaron that their dock manager is planning on leaving because his wife (who is only 53!) has Alzheimer's. He has already stated this to her and will leave sometime in the next few months. She said Aaron could start out with a few days a week to learn the ropes, and when the current manager leave, Aaron would step up as the new manager. :O It's a full-time, Monday-Friday, 8-5 kind of job with benefits, vacation, and a 401(k). Basically, everything we've been hoping and praying for AND it's local. It's not at all what we have been expecting to happen, but are so excited. God is so good!

I'm tempering my excitement until Aaron is actually there and working. We've had a lot of disappointments and near-hits that I'm cautious about getting my hopes up. When the current manager steps down, I'll be feeling pretty good.

On top of that, after about 2 weeks of a plateau, I finally lost a bit more weight. I'm down 31 pounds total and tried on (and fit into) a pants size I haven't worn since college. Even though it's taking forever just to lose a single pound, I must be shrinking ever so slowly.

We've been dog sitting for a few days. I've taken the dogs down to the beach a few times and have gone on a few bike rides. It's been great weather for over a week now and we've finally got summer weather here.

We're headed downstate on Thursday for my cousin's Saturday wedding. Unfortunately, it's going to be way too hot for my taste - 87F. I'm more of an upper 60s, low 70s kind of girl. The dress I want to wear still doesn't fit, but I'm still trying. I don't want to squeeze myself into it only yo feel like sausage stuffed into a casing on a hot day. If it does fit in time, I have shoes and accessories picked out for it! I haven't had carbs for a month now, so I'm realllllly excited to splurge on wedding cake.
