What was Laura like as a child?

I said this a couple of times recently, but having looked at the BSG timeline for a fic I was working on, I realised that Laura would have been born just after the first cylon war started, and her whole childhood would have been during wartime. The war didn't end until she was about ten or so. We don't know a whole lot about the first cylon war, so I guess I picture it being in some wars like wartime England, and in some ways not.

So I think that would have affected her a lot, as a child. I think it would have meant she had to grow up fairly quickly, and probably didn't have all the things that children in the generation before or after would have had, so she would have been used to not expecting much or having much of a sense of her own importance, maybe? I see her being a fairly quiet, studious child, enjoying books because she might not have had all that many toys, but her parents were both teachers so they probably had books around if nothing else. And she would have been used to having to just deal with life as it was, which you can see going forward into her adulthood, and the way she fought for life over quality of life, maybe? Because that was what it was like for her when she was little.

I'm formulating lots of thoughts on little Laura in the war, and how that shaped her as she became an adult. It's fascinating.
