daily post: Laura and the Girls

There was a suggestion for a femslash-centered day, but I'm going to make it a little more generic and say, let's talk about Laura's relationships with the other women on the show. This post can definitely include discussion of Laura femslash (i.e., sexual relationships with women), but you can also talk about friendships and relationships you ( Read more... )

I think Laura Roslin should have killed Tory by staring her down Chuck Norris style. Or should I say that Laura Roslin commanded Chuck Norris to stare down Tory Laura Roslin style?

LULZ!

Well as far as Laura's romantic relationships, I'm a Committed Laura/Bill and thats pretty much it. I don't see her in a f/f relationship, thats just how I like my Laura. But its whatever floats you boat, I just prefer Bill to float Laura's
As far as just Friendships I am surprised she didn't lock Tory~ I did love it when she made Tory go to Baltar even if she has do on her knees. LMAO on that one!! Kara was a tumultuous one it would have been nice to see more of that and less friction between the two, but the problem with those too and even though doesn't look like it they are a lot alike hence lies your problem~
But I think Laura on the whole didn't make deep relationships with anyone in an effort to protect herself from getting hurt~

Well, I'm another one who didn't really long to see Laura in a femslash relationship on the show (I am completely dedicated to Laura&Bill here), nor do I think she was actually interested in one, unless it was in her younger, wild years while experimenting. ;)

However, I'm actually gonna agree with what Mary's said on the subject. That she missed the female/female friendships and interactions, and actually asked for more scenes with Katee for example (I wish she would've gotten them, because I always found their scenes fantastic), but that it didn't seem to happen much after mid-season 2. That they didn't really show that many female friendships to begin with on the "human" side, but that they instead showed strong female friendships/relationships/you-name-it among the Cylons. And I can definitely see this, too; there was much more female interaction between the Cylons rather than the humans ( ... )

Short answer: I love Laura femslash. Do I think it happened in canon? Most likely not, though it pains me to say it. Do I like thinking about it? Hells yes. Like, more than is probably healthy.

By the way, just today the bsg_femslash community posted the results of The Lost Year challenge (ideas on what happened during the lost year on New Caprica), and there are 14 Laura femslash/female friendship stories (inclusive of all female characters, not just Laura) just waiting to be read and commented on. You can also vote if you're so inclined ( ... )

I like Laura femslash, but I confess I don't remotely see it in canon. What's funny is that, while I think Mary has amazing chemistry with everyone she's ever shared a scene with, leading to this desire I have to see Laura frak anyone and everyone in fanfic, I actually think she had the least sexual chemistry with Kara among the characters she shared a close relationship. I thought they had terrific chemistry, but that relationship was always maternal to me, and unlike with Lee, I never got the hot for teacher undercurrent to that maternal relationship. Oh well, maybe that's just me.

As for female friendships, I wish Laura had had more opportunity to interact with other women on the show, particularly Kara and Caprica, but I agree with angiescully that Laura and Tory had a nice friendship right up until Tory slept with Gaius. Episodes like Hero made it pretty clear to me that there was a girlfriendy element to their relationship. I always regretted that Laura and Tory's relationship didn't get more closure after the big Hub smackdown where ( ... )

It's funny, as far as I can see Laura and Kara both have tons of sexual chemistry with everyone but each other. Perhaps my brain just can't handle such hotness and so needs to block it out or explode.

It is a damn shame that those two never got enough scenes together, it may not have been sexual but they did have some wonderful chemistry, and a mentor type relationship would have been really nice.

Agreed on all points. I adore the scene when Kara hugs Laura after they blow up the Cylon refinery and Laura hugs her back. There was just such a wonderful mother/daughter vibe there that I really wanted to see a mentor relationship develop. It would have made their competing destinies storyline that much more intense.

I know, and there was that lovely moment at the end of Daybreak part 1.

Sigh, but if there had been more of Laura and Kara's competing destinies, the writers might have actually had to have worked out what was going on with those destinies.

It was such a missed opportunity.
