In preparation for my dad's birthday, I have made a test pie. He went crazy for my apple pie at Thanksgiving (even telling people on the phone that although my mom hadn't had a slice of it yet, he might have to fight her for the last piece anyway) and he told me that he loves cherry pie, so I wanted to try it out. I wanted to make sure that his birthday cherry pie wasn't going to be a complete disaster as I've never made one. This may be premature, but this is possibly the best crust I've made to date on any pie. I've just been nibbling around the sides, so I don't know if the bottom is done or not, but it's all kinds of flaky delicious.
This was one of the items on my list (# 56). So I will leave you with a picture to document it and possibly salivate over.
It's a messy pie, but I've never done a lattice top before. Also, be happy I chose this picture. The other one kinda looked like bacon draped over cooked bloody organs.
