O Hail Great Thief: The Jabberwock

Jan 18, 2005 01:57

A wise man once said:
"Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!"

Now:
Old earth is gone
From their shadows they emerge
Who are these men
Can you not see
They give praise to the gobblin
They crave for her to dance
Drunk with the gold that she gave them
From her spell,we marvel at their knowledge

For her spells have shielded our eyes
Their blessings brought a new spring

Here:
Old earth still cracks
We see her wrinkles in the trees
The shadows dance within her breath
Her eyes emerge from the sea
Coarse lepers bathe inside her rotten grail
While magic spoils the crops on her skin
Her fountains hold to cover the bones
Blind kings still seek your fortune

Curse you O Great City Jabberwock
Attend to your children and run
Bless us O Great Thief Jabberwock
May we ask you to rid us from this plague
May you grant us an hour to gather our loved
And mercy we ask of you not
Fools,they made of our fathers
Fragile hands they brought to our mothers
As we stumble through the looking glass
Our children will not, they will shout:

"And, has thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!'
He chortled in his joy.

Our children will and they will shout
