Brad Lidge Alert

Apr 02, 2007 22:02

This season I've decided to institute a "Brad Lidge Alert" on Livejournal. Meaning every time Brad Lidge blows a save, I will record and report it here for your consideration. This will continue until the Astros finally admit Lidge is damaged goods and take action by replacing him as their closer.

Tonight, in the Astros first game of the season, with the Astros leading the Pirates 2-1 with 2 outs in the 9th, Brad Lidge gave up a game-tying HR to Xavier Nady. My dad and I were in attendance and couldn't help but laugh at the absurd predictability of the situation. To his credit, Lidge didn't give up any more runs, and it was Chad Qualls who gave up a 2-run homer to Jason Bay in the 10th which proved to be the differnece in the game, but still. Need I remind you that the Astros missed the playoffs by ONE game last season? This was an easy win against one of the worst teams in baseball, and Lidge threw it away.
