It's been nearly 9 months since Steve passed away. His death really affected me. I feel like I've lost a good friend. I'm still really sad about it. I think I always will be. I'm 30 now. I started watching the Crocodile Hunter when I was 16. At first I didn't know what to make of him. Here was this wild Australian guy running around picking up snakes and all sorts of other wild creatures. He could climb trees like a monkey. I found him to be quite a character and started watching the show. As time went on I learned more about Steve as a person. He wasn't just this crazy Australian guy that ran around messing with animals. He cared very deeply for animals and humans alike. He was highly trained and knew exactly what he was doing. He also had a very special way with animals. He also seemed like one of the nicest and most genuine people in the world.

After watching him on TV for years everyone felt like they knew him personally because he put everything out there for people to see. I have no doubt in my mind that the Steve Irwin on TV was the same person in real life. It wasn't an act. He was the real deal. It really makes me angry to hear people saying "well he got what he deserved for messing with animals." He wasn't messing with them. He was a highly trained professional. He was fully aware of the risks. He always said "If an animal attacks me it's my fault." It was an accident plain and simple. He was just in the wrong place at the wrong time I can't believe how cruel some people can be. Steve Irwin was a kind man who loved his wife and children with every fiber of his being. He was passionate about wildlife. He was a gift to the entire world. He taught many people to love animals. In turn I think he showed many people not only how we should love and respect animals but how we should treat one another. He treated both animals and people with the utmost dignity and respect. I think we should all try to be more like Steve. He was an exemplary human being. I think his critics should do themselves a favor. Take the time to watch his documentaries and TV shows. Really learn who the man is. I think your opinion will change.

There will never be another Steve Irwin. I'm glad his friends and family and others across the world will carry on his legacy. I'm also glad people will be watching his documentaries for years to come. Steve accomplished his goal. He educated people about wildlife and he will continue to do so for many many years.
