“It's impossible to move, to live, to operate at any level without leaving traces, bits..."

It's been over two years and we talk every day. Not in some "you're up in heaven watching over me" claptrap (since neither of us bought into that), it's more that you are what you've always wanted to be: pure information, and goddammit, information wants to be free. One of our last drunken theoretical conversations revolved around the holographic theory of the universe, that the basis of all reality is a 2D plane of information on which we all exist as 3d projections. You've returned to that plane, leaving bits of code in all of our heads, and I have no doubt that your projection has resurfaced somewhere, that there is some two year old sitting with a picture book in his lap, Dr. Seuss probably, looking at a page that contains tall, curved, tapered contraptions, and he's thinking about rocketships. By the time he's three all his books will be about space.

I speak for everyone here when I say, we can't listen to music, without knowing what your reaction to it would be, we can't create art without feeling your encouragement, your pride in us.

(The new Nick Cave came out last night, and I can see you listening to it, wrinkling up your nose and saying: “Yeah, it’s got a good groove, and the noisy bits are good, but it’s all too Rock and Roll for me. I miss Blixa.”)

And, god dammit, the art we’re capable of creating! Yanick’s pictures are indescribably beautiful. Interface and Digital Geist are putting out amazing albums, Micah’s DJ skills are fierce…

…and there are many more who are creating moments of brilliance, and still more who need our asses kicked by you to get us back into gear…

Today has hit me hard, but even now, I’m smiling…

Screw you, you electro snob, the new Nick Cave is fantastic! You know, you used the same excuse (missing the seminal guitarist) for dismissing Morrisey’s solo work (odd for someone who “hates” guitars); and I won you over with “Everyday is like Sunday” and dammit, I’ll win you over with “More News from Nowhere!”
