[ Germany stepped slowly into the hallway of his "home", a limp arm holding onto the handle of a medium-sized kitchen knife.
Sitting on the floor with his back resting against the wall between Simon's and MOMO's bedrooms, he held it in his right hand, with the blade pointed back. He closed his eyes and tried to force his muscles to remember the reflexes required for brandishing a small blade. He couldn't practice now; all energy must be saved for the moment of truth when he'd need the weapon. He sat, and stayed. He knew Ayumu, while not the brightest lightbulb in the hardware store, would survive better than these two; she had a strange sort of optimism about her that would help. He had also instructed her to count all the dots in every wallpapered wall in the house, so as to keep her from spending too much energy.
Germany stayed seated in the hallway, listening for any sounds coming from the rooms. He would be ready. ]

Soon, we'll start seeing what humans are really capable of. I must protect them. I'm not worried about most others, but...

((And if it works out and MOMO doesn't mind, at night Germany's gonna carry her into Simon's room so he can get SOME sleep and still be awakened at the slightest noise, and be able to protect them both.
