"Among The Dead"
TEASER
INT - HOSPITAL - DAY [PAST]
JACK HARPER races in the white hopstial looking very frantic. JACK looks much the same, only slightly younger and without his look of cockiness. He approaches a nurse who takes a few beats before she acknowledges him.
NURSE
May I help you, sir?
THE NURSE begins to slide a stack of various forms his way.
NURSE
If you need to see a doctor then you’ll....
JACK
I don’t. My sister....Melanie Harper. I need to know what room she’s in.
NURSE
(seeming relieved)
Sure thing, hun. Let me check...what did you say her name was again?
JACK
Harper....Melanie Harper.
THE NURSE nods and turns to the computer to look up the name and room number. JACK watches her while she works until she stops typing and turns back towards him.
NURSE
Room 42A. That’s.. (pointing) down this hall, two doors on the right....you should remember-
JACK
-Thank you!
STEADY as JACK races away not waiting for an answer. He soon enters a hospital room and looks around until he sees MELANIE HARPER in bed. She's a petite golden brown haired woman with light blue eyes. On the side of the bed, on the night stands, an array of flowers are positioned in perfect symmetry though most of the rose petals are now withering away. MELANIE tries to sit up to greet him.
JACK
No, don’t.
MELANIE
(grinning)
Don’t wait? (seriously) Jack...What are you doing here?
JACK
Come on Mel, you’re my sister.
MELANIE
You don’t usually visit Jack.
JACK
I’m here now.
MELANIE
(chuckles)
Only because I called you.
JACK sighs and lets go of MELANIE'S hand, standing to his full height as he does.
MELANIE
Jack....I’m dying.....
JACK
Don’t talk like that. You’re not dying....you’re just sick.
MELANIE
(scoffs)
Just sick, huh. Jack...the doctor says it’s not going to be much longer
before...
JACK
Find a new doctor then. I’ll help you find one. You’re not going to die,
okay? You’re going to live a long happy live with Sam...
MELANIE
Sam left me, Jack. (in an undertone) Four months ago...
JACK
You’re not going to die, Melanie.
MELANIE
How do you know?
JACK
(smirking)
C’mon...I know everything.
MELANIE
I hope you do....
CLOSE on the withered flowers to EXTREME CLOSE on the blackened petals so that only the black is seen.
INT - MORGUE -DAY
TRU walks very slowly inside the morgue, catching her breath before she enters completely. Once she enters DAVIS looks up from his desk and stands to great her.
DAVIS
Tru. A-Are....did.....uh...so how is everything?
WIDE as CARRIE comes into view as well. TRU notices and her smile instantly fades.
TRU
I’m fine Davis. Couldn’t be better....
DAVIS
Oh....well...T-That’s uh....that’s good...
There is a long stretch of awkward silence as TRU and CARRIE both stare each other, sizing each other up it seems like. Finally CARRIE rises from the seat she was sitting on in front of Davis’s desk.
CARRIE
I should get going. My two o’clock will arrive at any moment. I don’t...Want
to be late.
DAVIS
Bye.
CARRIE leans forward and gives DAVIS a quick peck, which TRU is quick to grimace at. CARRIE leaves and TRU turns back to DAVIS.
TRU
We really need to talk.
INT - BAR - NIGHT [PAST]
JACK sits alone in a crowded bar with a bottle in hand. He looks the same as when he was in the hospital though the look of fear and concern is replaced by anger and pain. The BARTENDER soon approaches wearing his own scowl and JACK raises his eyes to see him.
BARTENDER
You’re reaching the cutoff there buddy.
JACK
Then when I reach that point, cut me off.
THE BARTENDER looks at the plastic badge on JACK'S blue jacket.
BARTENDER
What’re you? Doctor or somethin’?
JACK
EMT.
BARTENDER
You on the job?
JACK
Does it matter?
BARTENDER
(nodding towards the exit)
It really does.
JACK takes the hint and finishes the rest of the bottle. He looks back at the BARTENDER.
JACK
Can't save everyone.
JACK exits the bar and THE BARTENDER is still shaking his head and clearing away the bottle mess. O.S - GUNSHOT can be heard.
END OF TEASER
BLACK OUT.
ACT ONE
INT MORGUE - DAY
DAVIS
Tru, whatever you need....I’m sorry, okay. I really am, but I don’t think y-
you holding a grudge is going to-
TRU
-I am not holding a grudge Davis. What you did to me was wrong...
DAVIS
I know and I’m sorry...can...
TRU holds up a hand to stifle him.
TRU
But, I forgive you.
DAVIS
You do?
TRU
(nodding)
I’m not going to even pretend that I like Carrie...or even think it’s a good
idea of telling her..
DAVIS
You don’t trust her?
TRU
It’s not that I don’t trust her D’. It’s that I don’t think it’s a good idea
to have told her. Aren’t you the one who told me about all that....secret
identity stuff?
DAVIS
But, Carrie’s different...
TRU
How Davis? How is she different? Because you’re dating her? I never told Luc
remember? I didn’t tell Jensen....
DAVIS
Yeah but with Jensen... (catching himself) Well, you told Harrison...
TRU
(sighs)
What’s done is done. So let’s just forget it okay?
DAVIS
(hopefully)
So we’re back to being wonder twins?
TRU
Yeah...guess so....
DAVIS
Great. So you can help me reorganize the autopsy tools. I’ve been meaning to
that for a while. Alphabetical this time?
TRU
Actually I’ve got to run. Harrison’s been sick all morning and I promised to
go check in on him.... (rolling her eyes) And bring him chicken soup...
DAVIS
Mushroom is better. After?
TRU
Assignment for class.
TRU turns and begins to walk away, but stops to look back at him.
TRU
I’m glad we talked.
DAVIS
Me too.
INT - STATE PSYCHIATRIC INSTITUTE - NIGHT
WIDE as TRU, JENSEN, TYLER, and AVERY all walk down the crowded halls keeping just a few steps beyond their fellow peers and professor who speak in POCKET DIALOUGE.
TYLER
Remind me again why we have to look at the crazy people.
TRU
We’re not looking at them, we’re studying them.
AVERY
And the only reason why we’re doing that is because we have to.
TYLER
Right, studying them....
THE GROUP passes an old man and TYLER smiles at him. THE MAN only BARKS in response.
TYLER
And we’re doing that because?
AVERY
It’s required. Though I’m still not sure why....I’m mean we’re going to be
doctors right? Listening to someone while they talk about invisible purple
dolphins isn’t exactly my idea of helping people.
JENSEN
There is a certain level of gimp gawking to it. Except you get paid for it.
TRU
I don’t think it’s like that at all. It’s... (thinks for a moment) It is like
helping people. People that..
A YOUNGER PATIENT passes, dancing in tune to non-existent music. TRU pauses to look at her for a beat.
TRU
Wouldn’t normally help themselves. People that can’t help themselves. It’s
like a gift...
JENSEN
Well put.
AVERY
(shrugs)
Or we could just say it’s a lesson in mental and behavior disorders which
we’re required to attend.
TRU
Or that.
TYLER
I still say it’s a field trip to look at crazy people.
AVERY
(scoffs)
Field trip Tyler? Please, I haven’t been a field trip since I was in seventh
grade. And that was a lot more entertaining.
TYLER
Where’d you go?
AVERY
The zoo.
JENSEN sidles next to TRU, but doesn't notice when she takes a step back from him.
JENSEN
What about you Tru? Last field trip?
TRU
Ninth grade. Ferry. I got...a little seasick.
TYLER
Oh very nice. Davies puke.
AVERY
(in disgust)
Tyler, remind me we’re friends again?
TYLER
Cause I’m funny guy, remember? How many pre-med students does it take to
change a light bulb?
AVERY
Five. One to change the bulb and four to pull the ladder out from under him.
You know, you’ve said that joke before and it wasn’t funny the first
hundred times you told me...
TRU
Bad jokes aside.... we have another problem.
WIDE as THE GROUP looks around the hospital realizing with surprise that they are lost.
JENSEN
How long have we been wandering around?
AVERY pulls back her white lab coat sleeve and checks her watch.
AVERY
It’s 5:45 now...we were supposed to be done with this stupid lecture at 5:00...
TYLER
That’s just great. We didn’t even get to do some crazy people staring.
AVERY
(snaps)
Forget the crazy people.
JENSEN
I think we need to go this way.
THE GROUP follows him down another white hallway; they all seem to look exactly the same. O.S - LOUD CRASH can be heard. TRU takes the lead. STEADY as THE GROUP enters a room to see DR. FRANKLIN LEWIS lying face down in pool of his own forming blood.
AVERY
Oh God..
TRU and JENSEN begin to inspect the body.
AVERY
What happened?
JENSEN holds up a heavy metal book holder in the form of Auguste Rodin’s ‘The Thinker’.
JENSEN
It looks like he was hit. With this...
TRU
Jesus...
TRU gently turns the man over. CLOSE of FRANKLIN'S badge that bears his picture and name. DR. LEWIS' eyes pop open.
DR. LEWIS
Help me.
END ACT OF ONE
BLACK OUT.
ACT TWO
INT - MORGUE - DAY
TRU looks perplexed as she rushes into the morgue, checking her watch as she hurries inside. DAVIS looks surprised to see her, especially since he is in the process of doing an autopsy on a body.
DAVIS
Tru...?
TRU
Yeah, it’s me....Rewind day.
DAVIS
It is? Oh that’s... well... (pausing) Why are you telling me?
TRU
Oh right. Listen Davis, I forgive you okay. I still don’t think you should
have told Carrie even if I told Harrison or even if I brought Jensen
back. I’m trying not to hold a grudge even if I still don’t think she should know
or be a part of this. But, I don’t want to fight anymore so....
TRU pauses as DAVIS takes all of that in with widened eyes.
TRU
We cool now?
DAVIS
(smiling)
I guess we’re back to being...
TRU
Wonder twins, got it. Okay, here’s what I got. A Dr. Franklin Lewis
bludgeoned to death...
DAVIS
You saw someone being bludgeoned to death?
TRU
I didn’t actually see it. I just saw the aftermath. It was at the State
Psychiatric Institute....
DAVIS
What were you doing there?
TRU
University stuff.. But, why would anyone want to kill a doctor. Especially in
that way.... Patient maybe?
DAVIS
Could be. (trailing off) You know....
TRU
What?
DAVIS
Carrie used to work there....
TRU
She what?
DAVIS
S-She told me she worked there, when we first met...we...we were talking about
past jobs and such... I was just thinking that maybe....she knows
him. Since... (pause) She used to work there....
TRU
(sighing)
I don’t want her involved...
DAVIS
Tru, she might know who this man is. What’s worth it? Your grudge a-against
her or this man’s life?
TRU
Okay...but, don’t tell her it’s a rewind day. Just ask who the guy is.
That’s all we need to know.
TRU turns to leave, making way for the door.
DAVIS
Where are you going?
TRU
Harrison’s. Making soup...
INT - JACK'S APARTMENT - DAY
JACK sits on the edge of his bed, head in hand one hand, phone in the other. He’s still wearing the dark blue boxers and wife beater that he slept in though it’s already pushing past morning.
JACK
(into phone)
It’s not a matter of if I can do it or not. It’s a question of whether or not
I want to...
RICHARD (V.O)
You’re going to do it, Jack, end of discussion.
JACK
I can’t go back there....
RICHARD (V.O)
Listen to me. If you don’t then Fate will loose. We can’t have that no matter
how badly you don’t want to face your past. (quietly) We have all things
in our past we’re not proud of.
JACK
(sighing)
You know...you’re right. I’m not like I was back then anyway. I’m a
different man even...
RICHARD (V.O)
That’s right. You have a purpose.
EXT - BAR - NIGHT - [PAST]
CLOSE on JACK lying on his side on the pavement. He’s eyes are staring straight open and it’s the only thing that can be seen. Above UNDISTINGUISHED VOICES can be heard. CLOSE on and EMT's feet as he walks up.
EMT
Move out of the way...We need to...oh my god...it’s Jack...
INT - HARRISON'S BEDROOM - DAY
TRU comes into HARRISON'S bedroom carrying a tray with a bowl of soup on it.
TRU
Okay, Hare, cream of mushroom soup.
HARRISON
(sickly)
Cream of mushroom? What happened to the chicken? I’m sick, here Tru.
TRU
I was going to. I heard mushroom works better...
HARRISON
Why is it better?
TRU
Actually, I didn’t get that far in the conversation. By the way, this is a
rewind day. So if you want me to save someone’s life it’s probably not a
good idea to call me up every five minutes with your little requests.
HARRISON
(mock amazement)
I did that? That doesn’t sound like me...taking an advantage of the situation
like that. But, while you’re here....mind fluffing the pillows?
TRU
Ha ha, very funny. I’m serious though, Harrison. I will under no
circumstances be running over here to bring you a snack, change the channel,
or...Read your comics to you.
HARRISON
Fine, Fine
HARRISON takes a large spoonful of soup.
HARRISON
Bleh. Fyi, you suck at cooking... I mean, it comes in a can. How could you
mess that up?
TRU
Geez, thanks for the sentiment Harry.
TRU'S cellphone RINGS and she picks it up, stoping to notice HARRISON still eating the soup in the background.
TRU
(into phone)
Hello?
DAVIS (V.O)
Tru, it’s me. I talked to Carrie and she doesn’t know Lewis. But I checked
around a-and made some calls. Tru, he doesn’t work at the State
Psychiatric Institute....he’s a doctor at The Shankman Center...
TRU
The Shankman center? But, isn’t that where Jack admitted himself when he first
started reliving days?
DAVIS (V.O)
Yeah....
TRU
Alright...I’m on it.
TRU hangs up the phone and turns back to HARRISON.
TRU
I’ve gotta run...
HARRISON
Okay...I’ll call you if I need anything...
END OF ACT TWO
BLACK OUT.
ACT THREE
INT/EXT - SHANKMAN CENTER - MIDDAY
TRU looks up the large Shankman Center building before her. She’s wearing her white labcoat and her hair done in a tight bun to look a little older than what she is in all actuality.
TRU
Hope this works.
STEADY as TRU walks inside. OTS as she looks at the center and realizes how many people are bustling about.
NURSE
Excuse me?
TRU stiffens, but THE NURSE only keeps walking to another NURSE and the two began to talk in POCKET DIALOUGE. TRU continues to walk down the hallway until DR. MOORE walks up. He's young, mid-thirties, and fairly good looking.
DR. MOORE
You...don’t work here do you?
TRU
(coyly)
No, I don’t. I’m supposed to meet a...Dr. Franklin Lewis....
DR. MOORE
Oh, I see. So you must be Melissa Levin. Dr. Lewis is a good man,
great....lover of his patients.
DR. MOORE shakes TRU'S hand.
DR. MOORE
I’m Spencer. Or I guess Dr. Moore if you don’t want be so frank.
TRU
Spencer it is then. And yes, I’m Melissa...but, and I know I’m probably going
to sound like a total goof, but do you know where I might find Dr. Lewis?
DR. MOORE
No worries. This place is like a bloody maze. (points) Right then. You go
straight down that way, turn to your left, keep going down until you hit the
very tactless red plant, turn right and it’s the third door you run into.
TRU
Thank you.
DR. MOORE
Why your very welcome Melissa and if hope has it we’ll meet again. Hopefully
without one of us being lost.
TRU
Count on it.
DR. MOORE watches TRU leave. PAN just as JACK walks up.
DR. MOORE
Ah, Mr. Harper....funny, I didn’t think you’d be back here. Did you have
another....episode?
JACK
No Spencer...I’m just here to.....visit a friend.
INT - DR. MOORE'S OFFICE - MIDDAY
TRU knocks on the open door a few times before DR. LEWIS waves her in with a small look of surprise.
TRU
Hi. My name is Melissa Levin....
DR. LEWIS
Oh Ms. Levin.
DR. LEWIS rises and shakes TRU'S hand before sitting back down.
DR. LEWIS
I wasn’t expecting you till tomorrow...
DR. LEWIS looks over at the clock just behind TRU. CLOSE on 2 o'clock.
DR. LEWIS
and at Four...
TRU
I’m really sorry. I got my days mixed up and-
DR. LEWIS
That’s okay. But, as you can see...
DR. LEWIS waves towards the stack of paper sitting on his desk.
DR. LEWIS
I’m a little busy at the moment.
TRU
Right, of course. I guess tomorrow it is then. I have to run over to The State
Psychiatric Institute anyway....
DR. LEWIS reacts to the statement.
DR. LEWIS
I wasn’t aware that you knew Dr. Moore...He’s after my job, always has been.
But, luckily he’s not going to get it. The interview I have at The
State Psychiatric Institute is meaningless. He’s knows that...my work is
here. So can you please tell him to stop badgering me to accept the
offer. It could help you tomorrow...
TRU
Yes, of course. I’ll be sure to pass the word along.
INT - DR. LEWIS' OFFICE -AFTERNOON
JACK walks up the hall quickly. He stops just short of entering DR. LEWIS' office before he runs right into Tru.
JACK
Have a little therapy session Tru?
TRU
Oh you would like that wouldn’t you? If I remember correctly Jack the only one
whose ever had any therapy is you.
JACK'S smile instantly fades from his lips and he settles for a light glare.
TRU
Bet this looks just like home sweet home to you, doesn’t it?
TRU nods to the door behind her.
TRU
He’s a little busy at the moment, but I won’t stop you from trying. I’m sure
he’ll have an ear for a desperate man.
JACK watches in silence as TRU brushes past him and enters another room. JACK sighs and heads into DR. LEWIS' office without stopping to knock.
DR. LEWIS
Jack...? What are you doing here?
JACK
Remember when I came here because I thought...I was reliving days?
DR. LEWIS
Mhmm I remember.
JACK
Well. I think I might be going crazy again....
INT - ROOM IN SHANKMAN CENTER
TRU is looking threw a file cabinet and finally finds the one she's looked for bearing the words JACK HARPER on it.
TRU
Bingo.
TRU shoves the pocket into her purse. Her cell phone RINGS and she jumps slightly at the sound before picking it up.
TRU
(into phone)
Hello?
HARRISON (V.O)
Tru, listen....are you busy right now?
TRU
(groans)
Harrison! We had this conversation already....
HARRISON (V.O)
C’mon Tru, I am not asking you to read Batman to me. I just....I’m a little
bored, okay. Do you know what Avery’s doing? I tried calling her...
TRU
She’s probably getting ready to go to the... (beat before another groan)
Harrison want to do me a favor?
HARRISON (V.O)
What’s that? Cause if you haven’t noticed...I’m not exactly in favor making
form...
TRU
Call Avery again...when you do get a hold of her tell her your sick.
Really...Really sick.
HARRISON (V.O)
Okay? And this will help how?
TRU
Just be your annoying needy self Hare. Get Avery to take care of your sick ass
and if me and Avery aren’t there then Tyler probably won’t go....if Tyler
doesn’t go....
HARRISON (V.O)
I get it. Let’s just hope she knows how to make soup better then you can.
INT - DR. LEWIS' OFFICE - AFTERNOON
JACK begins to get up to leave.
JACK
Well thank you. I think this little chat has really helped me.
DR. LEWIS
Good, I’m glad, but we can’t make a habit of it.
JACK
Of course not.
JACK stands to his full height and looks at the photographs scattered throughout the office. CLOSE on a photo of MRS. LEWIS.
JACK
So how is Julia these days?
DR. LEWIS
Fine, she’s perfectly fine. Good day Jack.
JACK
It was nice chatting with you again...
INT - STATE PSYCHIATRIC INSTITUTE - NIGHT
TRU
(into phone)
I’ve already got a suspect in question. A doctor that wants his job...
DAVIS (V.O)
Sounds classic. Are you sure this is your killer? I don’t know if a doctor
would bludgeon someone to death. I mean...they uh....they’d know there
would be convicting evidence.
TRU
Well I won’t rule it out. But, right now all I want to do is try not to run
into my classmates and save Lewis’s life so I can at least try and salvage
some of the day.
DAVIS (V.O)
Okay, Tru. Good luck...
TRU
Thanks Davis.
TRU hangs up her cellphone and then looks around trying to find the right way to go. CLOSE as she checks her watch, 4.25. TRU quickens her pace just as she runs into DR. MOORE.
TRU
Spencer?
DR. MOORE
What a pleasant surprise. Melissa, fancy me seeing you here. I thought you
were chatting with Dr. Lewis?
TRU
I was. It is funny meeting you here..
DR. MOORE
Yes, well I wanted to put in a few good words in for my mentor. Lewis does
deserve this job. Well, I won’t keep you with my rambling any longer.
TRU attemps to follow DR. MOORE but CLOSE as two arms wrap around her waist pulling her inside a nearby room.
TRU
(struggling)
What the fu...
TRU struggles some more but a hand is soon placed over her mouth. EXTREME CLOSE as a needle is stuck into her arm. PAN BACK to WIDE as JACK lets go of her.
JACK
I just can’t let you win....not this time.
END OF ACT THREE
BLACK OUT.
ACT FOUR
INT - SHANKMAN CENTER - NIGHT [PAST]
JACK is sitting alone in a white room, shaking and mumbling to himself as he stares straight ahead. He begins to rock back and forth on the edge of his bed until the door is opened and DR. LEWIS walks in. The doctor is a little younger then what he is in the present, but not much has changed.
DR. LEWIS
And how are you feeling today Mr. Harper?
JACK
It...it happened again.
DR. LEWIS
(chuckling)
Well, then I guess I should be asking how you felt yesterday.
JACK
Did you just get back from helping Anna?
DR. LEWIS
What I do with my life is none of your business Jack.
JACK
You know you’re right. But, if those people you’re having an affair with
happen to be patients then it’s no longer just business is it? It’s a crime.
DR. LEWIS
What do you want from me Jack?
JACK
(shouting)
I want you to help me!
INT - STATE PSYCHIATRIC INSTITUTE - NIGHT
JACK stands outside a door in the hallway grinning all onto himself as he watches MRS. LEWIS rush into the room. Soon O.S - SHOUTING ensues. TRU suddenly runs out of nowhere and into the room. JACK takes a minute to react.
JACK
What....?
INT - STATE PSYCHIATRIC INSTITUTE - ROOM - NIGHT
MRS. LEWIS is soon holding up the bookend while DR. LEWIS and TRU react.
TRU
You don’t want to do this. Please....put it down....
DR. LEWIS
Julia please...
JACK enters the room.
DR. LEWIS
Jack...?
TRU
Julia.. Ms. Lewis....I don’t know why you’re doing this, but it’s not the
way...
JACK
He’s been cheating on you. For years now. Julia, who wants to live through all
that pain and infidelity. The man you love has been loving someone
else....his patients....
TRU
Julia you can’t do this...
DR. LEWIS
Please.
JACK
It’s been years Julia. It has to be tonight. He’s got a chance to move on.
But, he doesn’t want to leave his old lifestyle. You know it and I know
it...Julia, don’t you want to be free...?
JULIA looks from each one to the other and then back again, visibly shaking with trying to take all of their words in. JULIA throws the bookend down before rushing out of the room in tears. DR. LEWIS Dr. Lewis hurries after her. TRU loooks at JACK.
TRU
(angrily)
You drugged me Jack.
JACK
It was for Fate’s own good.
TRU
You’re lucky it was Thorazine.
JACK
Funny, I thought it was Ketamine. Guess it’s my bad luck for grabbing whatever
I could find from the supply cabinet.
TRU glares at him and then pulls out the crumpled file from her jacket pocket.
TRU
Still think it’s funny?
JACK
Where did you get that?
TRU
Found it.
TRU rifles through the file.
TRU
Interesting how your little bullet accident didn’t make it’s way onto the
pages. What was it Jack? A scoop and run?
JACK says nothing and TRU pushes the folder into his chest, hard. He grabs it, never breaking eye contact with her.
TRU
You know what I think? I think that secret you’re hiding....won’t be found in
there.
TRU lets go of the file and then leaves JACK standing there dumbstruck.
INT - SHANKMAN CENTER - NIGHT [PAST]
JACK is sitting in the same position as before, all alone in the room. JACK looks up just as a nurse enters.
NURSE
You have a visitor.
JACK watches as the nurse allows RICHARD DAVIES to enter and then THE NURSE leaves to give them some privacy. JACK looks up at RICHARD.
JACK
Who are you?
RICHARD
My name is Richard Davies, Jack.
JACK
Alright, fine. What do you want from me?
RICHARD
To bring you salvation.
INT/EXT - TRU'S APARTMENT - NIGHT
TRU looks up in surprise when she sees JENSEN standing in the doorway of her apartment. He’s holding flowers and she smiles brightly when she sets eyes on them. JENSEN hands TRU the flowers.
JENSEN
You didn’t show up today. Something happen?
JENSEN and TRU share a quick kiss. TRU then opens the door. STEADY as THE TWO enter.
TRU
I had to run to the morgue and Harrison was really sick.
JENSEN
Yeah, that’s where Avery went. I was all alone...
TRU
You went ahead and went?
JENSEN
I couldn’t resist.
TRU leaves O.S to put the flowers in a vase and JENSEN begins to stare out the window. When TRU returns she stares at JENSEN in curiosity.
TRU
Jensen...?
JENSEN
Hmmm? Oh, I was just thinking...
TRU
What were you thinking about?
JENSEN
You.
TRU reacts with pleasant surprise and JENSEN wraps his arms around her waist, pulling her closer to him. He pulls her into a tight kiss which TRU is quick to fall into. However, his hands are kneading her back and he’s pulling her still closer to him. JENSEN lets out the smallest growl and TRU suddenly pulls away.
TRU
It’s been a long day.
JENSEN
(snapping)
And? (more pleasant) That’s okay....we...can go slow.
TRU
No, I mean. It’s been a really long day...and I’m tired.
JENSEN
Oh okay. I’ll let you sleep then....I’ll see you later....
TRU
I know...
JENSEN leaves.
TRU
(quietly)
What have I done...
INT - OFFICE BULDING - NIGHT
JACK
(into phone)
We aren’t going to win them all, Richard.
RICHARD (V.O)
No Jack, we could. But, you’re too busy playing games...
JACK
I’m not. Besides, this will help....
RICHARD (V.O)
It better Jack. Otherwise we may have a problem.
JACK
It will.
JACK hands up the phone.
INT - ELEVATOR IN BUILDING - NIGHT
JACK looks over at MICHELLE CAREY, a pretty black haired woman with light blue eyes.
JACK
You seem familiar...
MICHELLE
My name’s Michelle. Michelle Carey. Ring any bells?
JACK
(happily)
You’re a reporter...
MICHELLE
Yes, I am. I take it you’re familiar with my work.
JACK
Just a little bit. But, in all honesty I think I may have a story that may
just make the headlines. And if you’re interested in writing it, I may
be interested in giving you some information.
MICHELLE
What is it?
JACK
It’s about a girl. Tru Davies...
