[RL - Touch Virus Day 3] The Daughter of Corsica meets the Daughter of Hyrule {future-dated}

Apr 24, 2009 05:00

The moment that Mireille's eyes opened, she knew that something was wrong in her apartment. She had been living in the apartment since she was fifteen, and she knew every noise it made, could tell when a plant had changed leaning position or a book was on the wrong spot on the shelf. And when she awoke, she knew that something had changed. She ( Read more... )

"I...like this game." She said slowly, and with a smile.

"Have you ever tried to look for him?" She asked softly, handing Mireille the cue stick back.

"It can be a lot of fun once you get used to it. And there can be strategy and stuff too, tricking your opponent into making mistakes, that sort of thing."

Mireille took the cue back...and promptly mixed her next shot, laughing softly as she handed it back. "No, not really. My uncle and I, mm...we work...different aspects of the same business. It's bad to move in the same circles."

"I can see where it would be." She had already been trying to come up with different strategies in her mind as they had been playing.

"I see. What exactly is it that you do, then?" She took it back with a smile, taking aim once more and promptly missing as Mireille had done.

"Well..." Mireille seemed uncertain what to say to that, the hand she had resting on Zelda's back shifting, fidgeting a bit, pulling at the fabric of zelda's shirt.

"I have a job that..." She let out a breath. "Most people would not understand what I do." She finally said, which provided absolutely no information. "Or approve of it."

Zelda stood up as Mireille gave her shirt a little tug, facing the woman and leaning against the pool table. She was careful to keep in constant contact with her, she had no desire to feel the instant headache and nausea that accompanied being apart.

"Well, I suppose it depends on who you talk to. I am not like most people."

When Zelda turned to face her, Mireille's hand moved off her back, dropping down to her side and then settling on the woman's hand. It was irritating, having to touch the other constantly, but she was getting used to it. It didn't make it any less irritating, though.

"I..." A pause, eyes flicking away as she tried to sort out how to put it. "Let's say there was someone in your kingdom...a problem, an irritation you needed to be rid of, but you couldn't do it publicly, you couldn't send the army after them or anything like that. But you needed them gone. You'd hire me."

For some reason, she couldn't bring herself to say 'I'm an assassin' to the pretty elven princess.

She frowned, though not at Mireille.

"I understand your need for secrecy and silence, but your profession, while not desired, is sometimes necessary. What do you think Link is? While not your conventional...assassin, he is attempting to kill the usurper king."

Mireille's eyes narrowed when Zelda frowned, though she relaxed as the other actually spoke.

But then she smirked faintly. "Ah, but he is doing for love of queen and country. My own motivations are a bit more...monetary." Sure, she tended to pick jobs where the people she was removing were the less positive aspects of society, but she was still basically murdering people.

"Not quite love of queen." Her slim fingers tapped the edge under Mireille's hand. "We have met only briefly, and I am not queen yet." She shrugged her shoulders again, glancing at her face.

"It is your choice, is it not...?"

"Well, love of country then." Mireille said with a grin and a shrug, glancing down at the hand that was tapping her own, considering it for a moment before looking back.

"It is my choice, yes. My uncle offered to teach me, and at first I was simply learning to learn, but...as I got older..."

A shrug, and a faint smile. "I am very, very good at it. One of the best in the world. I honestly think it is what I was meant to do."

"Well, if it is your choice, and your calling, then it is not my place, nor anyone elses to judge you for what you have chosen." Zelda's eyes twinkle.

"Unless, of course, you were sent after me. Then we may have a confrontation."

"Well, no. I mean...I know what I'm doing wouldn't be considered lawful in most cases, or moral for that matter." Mireille shifted faintly, looking away. "But thank you for not hating me." She added with a little smile. "I do not have many people I can talk to."

At the others declaration, Mireille actually laughs in surprise and shakes her head. "I do not think you have to worry, Zelda. Generally speaking the people I am hired to kill are...less than pleasant. And I do not go after people I do not think deserve it."

Being as good as she was at this, Mireille had long since earned the right to be picky.

"I have...very few as well." She gives Mireille a faint smile. Zelda is extremely picky about who she associates herself with. She's pleased at Mireille's laugh, and nods in agreement.

"That make sense. So you get to choose, then?"

"Well, then we've solved each other's problems in that respect." She said with a joking smile.

"My...uncle helped me arrange it so that I can choose. When I first began working, I worked with him. We took any job, but he did the ones that were..." She paused as she searched for a word. "Unsavory. As I became more well known, we took less and less of them, until finally I was working alone...and only doing those I wanted to."

Zelda nodded, studying the woman in front of her.

"So you enjoy what you do?"

There was something vaguely off-putting about the way Zelda was studying her, and Mireille found her eyes wandering away to look at the pool tabl3.

"Most of the time, I do, yes," there had been some jobs Mireille had not particularly enjoyed doing, especially when she was younger and not as good at it.
