I figure on occasion, if a week is particularly good, I'll write about it. In this case, this week was pretty good for me, though there were some various downsides.
First, my Monday class with Sensei Michael; last week he told me that he would, upon reaching my orange belt, consider me for the Sensei/Sempai Training Program as a sempai for his class, which basically means I'm a student teacher. This week, intentionally or not, I got to do that; for an hour and a half was I in front of the class, demonstrating and explaining to some people how to perform certain techniques and whatnot, including running the sparring session. Now that was where it went slightly wrong, as a little orange belt girl accidentally punched a little green belt guy in the nose. There was blood, but it wasn't anything too bad. I called Sensei Michael over and we called sparring quits since it was time to go anyhow. We ended up talking about State after class since he was one of the judges and the whole thing was fresh on our minds given it was the day prior.
Thursday, also known as tonight with Sensei Derrick. It didn't go so well. Despite having warmed up properly, I somehow managed to hurt my knee during class. I still don't know how it happened, and I kept going since I figured it wasn't too bad. I survived through three consecutive kata (taigyoku shodan, taigyoku nidan and saifa) without hurting myself too bad. Afterwards, we did sparring, and I stupidly tried to do a kick on my hurt leg, which made the top of my thigh start hurting too, but I did work out a really good method of blocking during that, so. After class was probably the best bit; Sensei Derrick was confused as to why I wasn't attending the grading this weekend and said I had far deserved my orange belt, which made me real happy.
Now my leg hurts still. Oh well.
