Diana Gabaldon and other stuff

Last Tuesday I met Diana Gabaldon at a book signing and got her new book (An Echo in the Bone - sounds like a Kathy Reich book, doesn't it?) signed for my mother for Xmas/Bday. I didn't get one for myself, as I am a poor grad student who spends all her money on shoes that end up not fitting. I did, however, get a brief 30-second chat with the woman which went something like this:

me: you're an inspiration
Diana: Thank you. Do you write?
me: *gobsmacked* uh, yes.
Diana: What do you write?
me: Uh, just fiction.

To which her aid commented something about everyone responding with "just" in front of fiction. STFU person who is not Diana Gabaldon. If I wanted your opinion, I would be fangirling all over you instead.

Anyway, now I regret not getting a signed copy for myself, but I already had two books in my hand (one for Lizz, who was too sick to come), and really I just made a bad decision. It was the first of many bad shopping decisions I made last week.

Alex and Austin came down for the weekend for the Marianas Trench concert. The train was 5 hours late, and so we missed going to the movie I had planned to get them out of the house. Saturday we went shopping at the MicMac, where I bought a pair of autumn boots that are waterproof (but didn't try on the size 8, resulting in a boot that rubs against my ankles and creates blisters) and a pair of flats in half a size too small (which also rub against my foot and cause blisters. I mean wtf, Char. You just spent $70 on footwear you can't even wear and couldn't splurge for a book by your favourite adult author when she was RIGHT THERE SIGNING THEM!! *sigh*

The visit with the boys was not as awkward as I thought, as I was able to fit them both in my room. Alex had the airmattress and Austin got the foam mattress. I got my own bed, which was a blessing. I didn't think I would get any sleep last weekend, but instead I averaged about 5 hrs a night (I can't sleep when my sleeping conditions change).

This week I had 4 assignments due, 2 of which I need to pass in tomorrow. Really, I don't have time to be updating LJ, but I just need a break. From life. I want to go home, and Christmas is too far away to really start counting down the days. Though rough guestimate says around 40 until I'm done this term.

This weekend my friends and I might be going on a Ghost Walk. Chilling? Only if I get my feet wet which is a possibility considering my boots don't fit :S
