I wonder what would happen if there was a language without superlatives and dichotomy. If instead of being able to say object x has property y, one would have to also state to what extent x embodied y. Instead of 'the cup is red' it would be 'the cup is mostly red' or 'the cup is very red.' Instead of 'men are pigs' it would be 'men are somewhat piggy' or 'some men are very piggy' or 'this man is completely piggy.' Imagine a language without black and white, a language built on shades of grey. Would people be more accepting if our language didn't default to absolutes? The cup is or isn't red, men are or aren't pigs, stealing is or isn't wrong. What if we were forced to think of everything as a spectrum? How cool would that be.
