As I was walking today , I began thinking about why I was doing this. Well I rattled off , endurance, weight loss, health,and well being. Then I thought but what am I actually doing to my body. I was breathing deeply ,oxygenating my blood,rushing good stuff to my cells. As I settled into my walk my stride became longer and my hips began to sway,while my arms swung back and forth infront of me.I felt my stomach tighen and my breathing swell through my diaphram. MY shoulders dropped back and my head and chest held high. I felt confident and sexy and determined. Then my massage training kicked in and I thought of how my natural lymphatic pump had kicked in to high gear. My thoughts became clearer and sharp. When tyou walk,your sacrum moves back and forth,creating a boost to the diaphramic lymphatic pump. When you walk with a sway or swagger it knocks the lymphatic pump action out of the park adding a figure 8 up down action. Lymph fluid is pumped up to the brain where is washes away the trash in the interstitial fluid and takes this trash out to the lymph ducts and dumps it. Swaggering and swaying keep the hip sockets moving and the inner and outer leg muscles moving,holding the stomach in ,relaxing the lower back.So if you have been using carbs and caffiene to wake you or get you through your afternoon slump,take a little walk first.
