Part 1: Slushied

Part 2: Pinkies
In which I include Brittany's point of view.

Note: For those who've read chapter 1 right after I uploaded it: I changed "Mary's" name to "Kay". A big thank you to my #1 and only fan @shmuttie for the suggestion to go for something more "edgy". So yea, don't get confused. And I won't make any other name changes. Promise.

---------
Glee club had always been Santana's favourite part of the day. Here she got to sing and dance and hold hands with Brittany without anyone mocking her for that. When Rachel sang one of her ballads she could rest her head on Brittany's shoulder and when Mercedes performed an upbeat song she could dance away with her blonde beauty. She loved doing that. And she hated that this all had been taken away from her.

After her rejection the former best friends never even spoke and Santana made sure that it stayed that way. It was hard enough having Barfie in her face all the time. She couldn't handle being close to Britt like she used to.

Images of golden silk brushing over her bare chest flooded her mind and lingered a couple of seconds before she managed to shake them off.

She had to remind herself that Brittany and her belonged to the past. Brittany had chosen and Santana had lost. If only she could get her eyes off the blonde. And if only Brittany would stop seeking out for her, meeting Santana's dark eyes with her perfect blue ones. It was an ocean Santana couldn't sink into anymore. This too belonged now to Artie.

As she forced herself back into reality Santana noticed the slushy victim from earlier entering the room. Well, that made sense now. The greeting had been appropriate.

Her face and hair were dry, but her clothes still seemed slightly sticky. Not everyone carries a second outfit around for each day of school.

She saw the new girl talk to Mr. Shuester before the teacher turned to the group and said: "Guys, it seems like we have a new member. Please give her a warm welcome." Then, turning to the girl standing next to him: "This is Kay. And she chose to introduce herself with a song." Santana didn't really care, but a new member at least meant a change. She figured that any change from the current situation could only mean an improvement. She crossed her arms in front of her chest and tried to look as unconcerned as possible.

Kay stepped forward and started to sing:

"I am unwritten
Can't read my mind, I'm undefined"

Kay's voice send shivers down Santana's spine. That girl could sing.

"I'm just beginning
The pen's in my hand, ending unplanned."

As Santana looked around she saw the whole group lighten up. They all enjoyed what they were hearing.

Thinking about it… this new girl looked sort of pretty. She sure had a cute smile. No way, not gay, NOT GAY!

"Reaching for something in the distance
So close you can almost taste it
Release your inhibitions
Feel the rain on your skin"

She couldn't help but join in the others for the chorus:

"No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words from your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open"

Santana snorted, angry about letting herself being carried away. She stopped singing.

"Today is where your book begins
The rest is still unwritten"

Kay finished the song and was rewarded with applause by the whole club. Santana rolled her eyes as she saw the new girl blush. That was just too fucking cute to endure.

---------
Kay was happy about her choice. Natasha Beddingfield wasn't her favourite artist, but the song was perfect for a new start at a new school.

"Nice work." Mr. Schuester commented. "Maybe you still want to tell us something about you. For example, why you chose this song as an introduction for yourself."

Kay turned to face the rest of the class. Words. She breathed in and emptied her lungs again to steal some time for her to consider what to say. All eyes lay patiently on her. She knew that look on peoples' faces. The look that says: "I'm waiting now, but I won't forever. Hurry up and say something clever. Something that makes sense. I'm friendly for now. Just don't make me wait too long."

Kay finally stepped forward and decided on the following words: "Well, my name is really Katherine, but everyone calls me Kay. With our names we make associations regarding one's identity. We use them as abbreviations, short cuts in our brains…. I chose this song, because you don't know anything about me and therefore aren't biased when you hear my name, yet. So logically everything that lies ahead of me is yet to come and no one makes any assumptions. I am unwritten."

Actually it had been Tess who had suggested "Unwritten".

Tess. Kay's heart made a little flip when she thought about the girl; which was really stupid considering they didn't even really know each other, yet. Kay figured she was just happy to have found a new friend so quickly.

Her gaydar seemed to have left her somewhere between her last couple of failed date attempts and she got exactly no vibes from Tess. She had beamed, though, when the blonde had offered her the seat next to her in English. It had given Kay enough confidence to ask her out…well, sort of. She had put on her I-don't-really-care-face, shrugged and suggested that they grab a coffee sometime. Tess had immediately agreed. SCORE.

"So what brings you to Lima?" A blonde guy sitting in the back row had asked this. Legitimate question. "My name is Sam, by the way."

Kay shrugged. It hadn't really been her choice to leave her friends behind. "I'm originally from New York. My parents got a divorce and moved to different places in Europe. I didn't want to go with either of them so the only other option for me was to live with my aunt, who happens to live here in Lima."

The kids at Glee seemed nice. Especially the blonde girl who apparently was with the nerdy guy in the wheelchair was cool. They all got up from their chairs to introduce themselves properly. There was Rachel, who never quit talking about Barbra Streisand and singing ballads; Mercedes whom you could hear constantly even when she wasn't talking; then Sam, the new kid before Kay had joined; Lauren apparently was just there, cause she was accepted. There was Puck who loved Lauren and Tina the shy Goth girl who was with Mike the dancer, but secretly loved Artie (not exactly a very well kept secret as Kay realized it right away). Quinn and Finn rhymed and were boring otherwise; although Quinn reminded Kay of her favourite book back in kindergarten when she was too young to read. It had contained many beautiful pictures of fairies in long magical dresses.

The kid in the wheelchair was called Artie. His girlfriend's name was Brittany, although Kay didn't really understand why they were an item. Apparently Artie had a great voice, but Brittany was just out of his league. They looked odd together.

Where love strikes it strikes, Kay guessed.

Santana, the pretty Latina had stormed out of the rehearsal room as soon as possible. She had spat out her name and waved with the back of her hand on her way out. Kay decided she liked her anyway. Maybe it was because Santana was the only one who didn't want to talk.

---------
A week had passed since Santana had confessed her love to Brittany. Brittany couldn't really make sense out of it, though. It was hard to make much sense of anything, but Santana was definitely the greatest riddle of all.

The first time they had kissed Brittany had felt sparks. Santana was with Puck then, though and told her it was just so she wouldn't get bored between dates.

The second time they kissed Brittany had decided not to expect anything. That time Santana told her she wanted more than just her kisses.

The third time they kissed Brittany wanted more as well, but when she told Santana she had gotten angry.

Brittany chewed on her lip at the memory. Santana was always angry, except for when they were together. The Latina always pretended not to understand Brittany, giving her irate looks whenever she said something other people would consider stupid, but that was just a facade. An expression she shot at the blonde for everyone else to see.

When Brittany looked at her all she could see was kindness. All there was to see was her best friend whom she always used to know everything about and whom she could share anything with without being pushed away. When they were alone the Latina's facial expression changed from bitchy to soft and… loving? That didn't make sense. Although after Santana's confession it kind of did.

"Babe, you there?" Brittany decided to ignore Artie's question. She needed to figure this out first.

So Santana had told her she wasn't in love with her. And then she had told her she was in love with her. And now they couldn't be friends anymore, which basically sucked. Brittany looked down to her pinkie. It felt empty and naked without the other girl's pinkie curled around it. She attempted to intertwine her own two pinkies, but it didn't feel quite the same.

"Eh… Brittany? What are you doing?" Brittany sighed and looked up to her boyfriend. "Nothing. What were you saying?"

She had to find a way to get the other Santana back. The one who didn't ignore her. The one who didn't treat her like everyone else. The one who wasn't mad at her.
