adobe premiere: SOS

Feb 16, 2006 11:25

Full update coming shortly, promise, but first, a plea to my flist.

I have: several .avi files which are 640x352, approx. 43 minutes long, high quality, and therefore, 350 MB.

I have: Adobe Premiere.

I want: those .avi files to compress and/or change to a different format, which will have a smaller file size WITHOUT dropping the quality down the toilet or changing the pixel dimensions. QuickTime, RealMedia, WMV, or .avi itself, even, I don't care, I'm just convinced that there's got to be a format that won't take up 350 freaking MB apiece.

I have: NO IDEA how to convert the file. Premiere is the most counterintuitive program I have ever seen. I've looked up tutorials and help files. I've read up on 4x3 vs. 16x9, and quality-based VBR vs. bit-rate. I've tried importing, then exporting the files; I've tried using the Adobe Media Encoder; I've tried tweaking the settings. What I usually end up with is a 43-minute long .wmv file which is just a blank screen / silence and yet 29 MB.

Help me, flist. You're my only hope. I can pay in - er. Smutty drabbles? E-sexual favors? Big blinky puppy dog eyes?

technology hates me
