Letter to 20th Century Fox movie executives

Dear 20th Century Fox,

I must admit, I am a bit surprised by the direction you've chosen to take with this X-Men flick I just got around to watching.

Introducing a brand-new mutant, just for the first movie! That's certainly a bold decision. Particularly one who looks about fourteen and has the sorriest excuse for a Southern accent I've ever heard. But she does have nice doe eyes, which she uses to sort-of-act, so you probably have your reasons.

I am a bit confused as to your decision to name her "Rogue," given that that name's already taken in the X-Men franchise. Rogue is a rather fascinating character - a sassy, curvy redhead who is mouthy, gutsy and doesn't take shit from anybody. Golly, she's neat.

Were you at all concerned that this naming-bit would upset long-time fans? There are one or two superficial similarities between the characters - the power-absorption mutant ability, Southern background - which means that when you actually introduce Rogue as a character, doing her Rogue thing - flying, picking up tanks and tossing them around, flirting and/or bickering with her Cajun swamp rat - newcomers are going to wonder why there are two Rogues in the movie and not just one. Particularly considering how much cooler this Rogue will be than the other one, who seems to mostly sit around being emo.

However, I have faith that you've got your reasons for all of this subterfuge, so perhaps it'll all make sense as this goes on. Maybe they're doppelgangers! This new "Rogue" is some kind of government clone (that failed horrifically) and actual Rogue gets to kick this newcomer's ass! That would be fun to watch.

Of course, you have to be careful. Doing that sort of thing too often is going to get repetitive. So you'll have to come up with a different explanation entirely for this new "Storm."

Good luck with that.

Kisses,
-Relly
