Emmercat

So I ramble on here a lot about Bella, because Bella has been my fluffball for so very long, and she's the cuddliest snuggliest cat in existence. But I don't talk much about Emmers.

Not because I don't love her dearly. I do. But because she's still holding herself a bit away from us.

Which is cool. She needs to take her time, it's all kind of good. Both B&E were rescued strays, but Bella was only 6 mos old, and Emmers was three years - she's got a lot higher walls that need to come down.

She's a grumpycat - she'll rowl and hiss and grumph, and it's so cute. But she's also starting to get snuggly, which is something that, quite honestly, after three years, I wasn't sure I was expecting any more. I was starting to think she just wasn't a cuddly-type of cat, and that's just how some cats are.

Emmers is adorable because she's so bossy when she wants attention. I mean, all cats are, but Emmers doesn't do anything by halves.

Most common scenario: I sit on the couch with my laptop on my lap, typing furiously, and suddenly there's an Emmers standing on my knees, looking at the laptop expectantly and prowling. I pick up the laptop and before I've even got it set down elsewhere, she's flopped down on the warm spot left behind, purring and stretching her claws.

Problem: she flexes her claws and settles in, snagging the hell out of my jeans and scratching up my kneecaps. So I pet her for a while, and try to nudge her somewhere that isn't actively drawing blood (or making my legs fall asleep), and she yowls, and then looks at me expectantly. "Well? Can we get back to the petting?"

She stays for a while and we snuggle, until finally my leg DOES fall asleep and I juggle her elsewhere and she runs off.

Right now I'm sitting on the couch but she's on the armrest next to me. She can't decide if she wants me to nuzzle her or no. It's ok, Emmers. I know how that goes.

Also: watching Bella and Emmers stalk one another around the living room? Comedy gold. Really is.
