I mentioned that I filled out an aupair profile on a site a few days ago. After explaining what my situation is exactly to the moderators of the site, they posted my profile this morning. I have spent the past couple of hours looking through the profiles of Dutch families who are interested in an aupair, and I found a really lovely sounding family who lives in Friesland with two middle school-aged children and a small apartment attached to their house for an aupair. I sent them the pro forma message the site has, saying something like, "I am very interested in working as an aupair for you, etc."
Ten minutes later, the mother of the family sent me a message in Gmail, saying she had tried to call me (on Elger's number, which is the only proper way to contact me here since my American phones invariably don't work) to set up a meeting sometime before the 20th. I responded and explained why she got a man's voicemail, and told her I could call her this afternoon around 3:30. She e-mailed me back again almost immediately and said that would be fine and that she was looking forward to it.
Maybe maybe maybe!
EDIT: I have an interview at 11 tomorrow morning in Noordwolde. When we spoke on the phone there was some hesitance about applying for residence permits and instead having me stay for a few months at a time and then leave for two weeks and return, but she's had aupairs for 11 years now and we will hopefully be able to work that out legally.
