Reclaiming the Rani's TARDIS with eleventh_doctor

Seated at the back of a very specific TARDIS, the Rani gave herself a full 20 minutes of sleep before she went over her conversation with the Doctor in her mind. Certain parts of it made her wonder if perhaps age (or a change in perspective? hmmm...) had brought some wisdom to her old schoolmate. Other parts reminded her of how much could remain ( Read more... )

The Doctor spent her time carefully constructing a tracking device, small and inconspicuous enough to be placed on or in the Rani's TARDIS without detection and difficult to disable should it be found. She was going to be sure this wasn't something she would regret.

When she was done, she stuck her head out of the TARDIS a minute or two early. "Rani?"

There was no answer but the sound of clothing shifting as she stood. She took a moment to dust herself off and to make certain the grass hadn't left any stains. Then she walked around the TARDIS to peer at the Doctor.

"Are you quite done?"

"It didn't take me that long," she said as she opened the door all the way and stepped backwards into the TARDIS, allowing the Rani room to enter. "But yes, I'm done."

"I didn't say that it had," she said primly, stepping towards the door to the TARDIS. She looked at the empty doorway for a moment before stepping in.

She shuddered before starting to look around.

"You've redecorated."

The Doctor grinned. "Like it?" She did, quite, so it wouldn't matter what the Rani said.

She headed for the console, tracer safely stored in one of her many jacket pockets. "Do you know where this Urak was planning to take your TARDIS?"

"Neftek," she reported immediately. "The home planet of Arbitus, one of the other escapees. No doubt he's waiting for me to show up, practically on a platter for him."

Once that was done with, she looked around the main console room critically.

"It's very... organic," she said noncommittally.

She found the coordinates in the TARDIS database and began hopping around the console, pushing this and pulling that. "She chose it herself. Hold on, almost ready."

"Would you like the exact temporal coordinates?" she offered with a raised eyebrow.

She glanced upwards in the middle of pushing a button. "Yes, thank you."

She absolutely did not forget for a moment.

She passed the coordinates, quickly and efficiently, before pacing around the TARDIS, more closely examining the room.

"May I?" she asked, pointing towards the doorway which lead to the other rooms.

"If you like." Outside the door, there were corridors that stretched out and twisted past vision that matched the console room in decor. "But we're almost ready to de-materialise," she warned.

"I only wanted to peek," she said before turning and walking towards the exit.

"Where have you put us in relation to the planet?"

"Somewhere on the planet, I should think. I can't give you anything more specific, though."
But there was a viewscreen, handy for use.

She pulled the viewscreen closer to herself so that she could give it a thorough lookover, not that it mattered. Arbitus wasn't here yet (she'd left a small tracking device on the ship, one which told her he had an hour or so before he'd be here because of course the idiot had changed course once she'd left the ship) but her TARDIS was and that was all that was really important.

"It took him longer than I thought it would for him to change course," she murmured to herself as she consulted her wrist device.

The Doctor leaned over the console so she could have a better look at the viewscreen. "Can you summon your TARDIS from outside, or do we have to be closer?"

"I can summon it from here," she admits. "I could even summon it into this room, if it didn't bother you. But I'd prefer to wait until Arbitus is in range to act as a distraction.

"Urak is still on board, if you don't remember."
