I just had a burst of energy and did all of the prompts so far. I hope it's alright to stick them all in one post.

Prompt 0: For the Fleet

Another graduation ceremony. More warriors for the fleet; more people willing to fight and bleed and die so that the human race could survive just one more day.

Laura loved them for it. Loved them for fighting, even when it seemed like no hope was left. Loved them more for believing that the fleet might someday reach Earth, even though they had no proof that Earth existed.

They believed in her; the dying leader who would bring them to the promised land. Truth, lies, unfounded hope. She didn't know any more. But she still kept looking at the stars, hoping that someday there would be that flicker of recognition. She wondered if she would live to stand on the planet that she had been born on; if there would be anything she would recognize or remember.

None of this was helping to write her speech though. She didn't have to be another soldier, but she did have to appear strong and proud, not sweet. This was the military, after all.

Her train of thought was interrupted by an odd beeping noise. It took her a moment to figure out where it was coming from and her first thought was that it was an assassination attempt. When she looked closer, she realized it was a communication device, though not like anything she had seen in the Twelve colonies. She hesitated, then pressed the button, and waited to see what would happen next. She thought she was prepared for anything, but she couldn't have been more wrong.

Prompt 1: Playing by the Rules

Laura nearly laughed when she was told she could remember if she chose. She had assumed they would wipe her memories again without so much as a by-your-leave.

She pretended to think about it. Pretended it was a difficult decision. It wasn't.

They hadn't let her leave a map to Earth or told her where the fleet was. But she had spent much of her spare time in the Doctors' TARDISes studying star charts. All those months and years staring at the stars had proved useful. She'd found the current location of the fleet and plotted a course to Earth. Memorised stars and constellations and whatever other markers she could find, all the while assuming she'd lose it when she was sent back; that it was all for nothing.

She didn't write anything down; she knew she'd never get that past them, but being able to keep her memories was an unexpected gift. It had been too long since she had travelled with the Doctor. She hadn't realized until she stood on Earth again that she had begun to doubt it was anything more than a dream.

There was no question. She would keep her memories. The Doctors, the sights and sounds of Earth, the path through the woods and most importantly the belief that someday she would return home again.

Prompts 2&3: How Her World Had Changed

Her first taste of alcohol had been a glass of fine wine, given to her by the Doctor. Now she drank whatever the stills in the Fleet could produce. There were still a few bottles of the good stuff floating around, but they were rare and hard to come by. Eventually they would be gone.

Her first taste of sex had been in the Doctor's bed, all velvet and lace and sweetness, knowing Aunt Lavinia would disapprove if she knew. Now she shared Bill's occasionally. military uniforms and rough sheets, knowing her constituents would disapprove if they knew. Momentary pleasure in a world gone harsh and cruel.

Once she had taken Earth for granted and found it easy to leave when the Doctor smiled at her and held out his hand. Now her one goal was finding her way back home. She wondered if she'd live to see that day.

She still remembered the taste of the wine, the feel of velvet, the brightness of his smile, but that wasn't her world now. Her world was rotgut liquor, the Fleet and the journey home. But remembering what her life had been kept her going, when nothing else could.

The rest of the Fleet was following a half-remembered legend. She was going home.
