Several (many) months ago my former office mate came into work after an eye exam and realized it was probably not a great idea to schedule an eye exam in the AM because it was difficult to work after having her eyes dilated. I have never had my eyes dilated so I ask why they do that. She seemed surprised and told me it was done with every exam as part of the general check up.
It has been a while since I have had awesome insurance and even though I have had my awesome insurance for a while I haven't taken a lot of time to get stuff checked out because my work load has been busy. But now that there are two of us I can do stuff like go to the dentist and get my eyes checked.
I was freaking out though. I have never had my eyes dilated and was told to be prepared for them to do so. I am photo sensitive. I actually dislike being in the sun because it hurts my eyes. I find cloudy and over cast days much better. When everyone at work got excited about the warm sunny weather this week I was in despairing. My sensitivity has gotten worse and I wanted to get some prescription sunglasses but needed a new lens prescription. Which meant going to the eye doctor, which meant getting my eyes dilated, which meant being exposed to unpleasantly bright light. So, I was freaking out.
But the doctor said the coolest thing ever - he didn't need to dilate my eyes. The pupils naturally dilated enough so that he could see into them without dilating them. It was awesome. I was also complimented on my long eye lashes especially since they kept getting in everyone's way.
Today I learned that I like eye doctors significantly better than I like dentists.
