Jesus H Christ it stinks like hellfire in here. And it’s even worse outside. Something is burning; the smell of wood and plastic is seeping under the doorways and into the school. One of the girls here said that her mom had to pull over for a fire truck on the way here. I wonder what’s burning right now. It smells really close. Too close. Fire trucks, police sirens, and ambulances have become common occurrences this past week, and I’ve heard that the city is issuing a fire ban again. 'Bout time, if you ask me. As a kid I used to find these things thrilling, but now they make my heart hurt. Who's being hurt right now? Why are there so many sirens?
