I support FanFiction.Net, but I do not support many of the writers here. I know this shocks you, dear reader, but hold in your gasps of surprise please. It's impolite to breathe on others when you smell like a college kid who just went on a three day long alcohol binge.
And face it, most of the people on this site do smell like this.
Their profiles, their stories, and their reviews are like dirty shirts you pick up off the floor and sniff cautiously to find out whether or not they're safe to wear for one more day. You sniff, you cringe, and you throw them back on the floor in disgust.
FanFiction.Net is supposed to be some paradise for FanFic writers, a place where they can gather and share stories over every Fandom out there. But that's not the reality. Many older people have abandoned this site and migrated to safer ponds. (LiveJournal, anyone?) And do you know what those older users call this site?
The Pit. The Pit of Voles!
What does that tell you about FanFiction.Net, folks? We're being called a Pit of Rodents! And this isn't the (non-existant) Moderators fault, or the n00bs fault, and it's not just the wapanese people's fault, it's our faults. All of us play a part in FanFiction.Net being called "The Pit of Voles".
If you can't spell and don't use spell-check, it's your fault. If you don't know basic grammar and don't ask for help, it's your fault. If you don't have a Beta Reader and just post right after finishing, it's your fault. If you don't edit after mistakes are pointed out, it's your fault. If you don't pit effort into your stories, it's your fault. If you don't try and improve, it is your fault.
Someone called jennjenn once said: "Fanficiton.net is like Wal-mart, everyone uses it, and no one really loves it."
I think that really sums up my whole opinion on this site. It's supposed to be great, the writers are supposed to be writing decent stories, but most of what I click on turns out be nothing but steamy piles of rotting trash. Please, for the love of god, would everyone just start putting some effort into what they write? I don't care if it's only a hundred words, if you care about your readers it'll be written--and edited--to the best of your abilities!
And until such a time when you do put some effort into your stories, I won't be reading them. I'll click into them, read the first lines, and check it back onto the floor where it belongs. I understand we're not perfect, and I understand we do this for fun, but I read for enjoyment...and most of the stuff on this site isn't even close to enjoyable.
