What I don't understand is people and politicians who would rather combat hunger and poverty in other countries before ours. What is it about the starving of other countries that makes them more deserving than the ones right here? We should try fixing our own problems first

I agree. I think that there are lots of reasons - or rather, excuses - that politicians help poverty outside the country first, such as they want to ignore that it is here, and that everyone else's poverty is "so much worse." In some aspects, perhaps, but you're right! If we can't take on ourselves, how can we help others? I think you should run for president. I'd vote for you.
