xxxHolic Last Chapter
I was going to wait and post my thoughts after I read the scanlation I still need to comment on Gate 7 after all, but I decided to go ahead anyway.
The ending didn't surprise me one bit. For a long time now I figured that people would slowly leave Watanuki's life until only Doumeki was left and then he too would die (which would explain why Himawari was written out of the series and then Kohane, who's role grew gradually smaller as Rou went on). The only thing I didn't expect was that Doumeki's grandchildren would continue on and visit Watanuki on a regular basis. I figured that Watanuki would be left alone with his self-pity.
I have to admit I'm a bit curious on how they're able to enter the shop. Doumeki and Himawari couldn't enter until they had a wish, so what did Doumeki's kids wish for? Maybe the egg allows them to enter? Or maybe something was mentioned in the dialogue since I haven't looked at the translation yet.
I really liked the scene between Yuuko and Watanuki where the butterfly let the bird out of the cage. Overall however I thought Tsubasa's ending was better. Tsubasa's ending made me sad since something I was invested in and loved for so long was finally ending. The biggest complaint I had with it was that Sakura was unable to travel with everyone else and had to stay at home. With 'Holic, I've invested more time into it but I only feel relieved. I'm glad it's over so CLAMP can focused on something else.
