[character history / background]: Legend has it that five hundred years ago, when Nippon was still very new, a monster fell from the heavens and landed somewhere near Kamiki Village. It was a creature of darkness-- all of the evil within it seeped out and spread over the lands, killing off all life around it in horrible ways. Famine, disease, miasmas, spawned monsters...it overwhelmed the people all across Nippon. Orochi had chosen Kamiki village as his prey-- if they did not give up the virgin maiden he chose each year on the the anniversary of his arrival, he warned, he would utterly annihilate them. And so for the next ninety-nine years, this went on. The house of the poor girl was marked with an arrow the night before the anniversary of Orochi's arrival, and she was expected to dress in the sacrificial robes and go to his lair the next night in order to spare the rest of the village.
On the one hundredth anniversary of Orochi's arrival, the villagers were so ashamed of how long this atrocity had continued on for, that they prayed to the gods for some sort of relief from Orochi. A powerful sun goddess heard their pleas, and descended down to the earth in the guise of a white wolf to keep on the lookout during the days leading up to Orochi's anniversary. The villagers believed her to be a familiar of Orochi's, and calling her by the name of Shiranui, condemned her from the village, treating her unkindly and trying to drive her away. But Shiranui bore it all and patiently waited for the eve of Orochi's anniversary, when a virgin maiden would be chosen as the monster's sacrifice.
The chosen maiden ended up being Nami, the beloved of the village's best swordsman Nagi. Nagi would not stand for this, and so he dressed himself in the sacrificial robes to take Nami's place. Once he was inside Orochi's lair, he valiantly tried to fight the monster-- but Orochi was indeed a fearsome beast, for he had eight heads of which held a different element of the world, and even Nagi was beginning to succumb to Orochi's power.
Shiranui suddenly appeared to help Nagi, and long into the night the white wolf fought with the eight headed dragon. But Shiranui as well was no match for Orochi, until she used the last bit of her strength to send a loud howl towards the skies. The clouds parted and the moon shined down on Nagi's sword, causing it to glow with the power of the heavens. And with that power, Nagi was able to defeat Orochi.
Unfortunately, the wounds Orochi had inflicted on Shiranui during the battle were too much for her to bear, and she died in Nagi's arms. He carried her back to the village, and in her honor the villagers created a statue of her, enshrining it close to the guardian tree of the village, Konohana. The village saw ninety-nine years of peace thanks to Nagi and Shiranui's efforts...but darkness and evil reared its head once again when the one hundredth anniversary started to near.
When Orochi had been defeated, Nagi's holy sword had been placed at the entrance of the monster's lair in order to keep in any lingering evil. Someone disrupted this seal, though, and evil has once again spread over the village, as well as other spots around Nippon where Orochi's accomplices and minions lay. With Kamiki Village and, indeed, the whole of Nippon in danger once again, the wood sprite Sakuya of the guardian tree Konohana summoned the spirit of Shiranui that lay dormant within the Shiranui statue, and from it emerged Shiranui's reincarnation, Amaterasu.
Amaterasu was a far cry from the powerful sun goddess Shiranui that had saved the village in the past. She barely had any power when she was awakened, and her memories of the past were gone. But somehow, with the help of Sakuya and one of the Celestial Brush Gods who restored her 'ink' powers, she was able to partially purge the village of the evil that was in it and surrounded it. It would not, however, be completely free of its shackles until Orochi was killed once and for all, and so Amaterasu set out to try and recover her powers in order to confront the monster once and for all.
Issun, a wandering artist, had some interest in Amaterasu-- he wanted to travel with her as she recollected her brush techniques so he could use them for his own work. Ammy had no qualms with this, and so together the two of them set out, their goal to recover all of the thirteen (technically fifteen) brush techniques and to take out Orochi and his accomplices that were scattered all around the world.
Up to this point, Ammy has been able to recover several Celestial Brush Techniques from the Brush Gods close to Kamiki Village. But as she journeys farther and farther, she's suddenly whisked away from her homeworld, separated from her friend and still powerless to help Nippon...
[character abilities]: Ammy has empathetic abilities-- she is able to read emotions very well, and can even tell when someone wants to speak to her. She cannot, however, read their minds or know their reasons for feeling emotions.
Physically, she is a very healthy wolf. She has excellent senses of sight, smell, hearing, and taste. She is also fit, and is very agile as well as powerful as far as her teeth and claws go. Her weapons, while still powerful in their own right, are still relatively weak when compared to what weapons she possessed when she was at the height of her power. At the moment, she carries her main Divine Instrument,
Divine Retribution, around with her at all times. It is the spinning green discus (reflector) surrounded by fire on her back. She also has the
Devout Beads at her disposal, which appear as a string of large beads (rosary) that float around her body or hover at her forelegs. She can switch between Divine Retribution and Devout Beads as her main and sub weapons, and they function differently depending on what is equipped as what.
Aside from this, Ammy has another special ability. Her 'ink' powers (housed in her tail, of all places) are, quite literally, being able to use ink to perform certain 'miracles'. For the moment, she possesses Sunrise (the ability to create or prolong the daytime), Rejuvenation (the ability to restore broken or damaged items to their original condition), Power Slash I (the ability to cut through objects), Cherry Bomb (the ability to create one bomb per brushstroke), and two of the Greensprout abilities, Bloom (the ability to restore plants or make them grow), and Water Lily (the ability to create lilies in water to stand on). The rest she has forgotten, and she will not be able to regain them until she journeys back to Nippon to find the rest of the Celestial Brush Gods who hold the rest of the Brush Techniques.
The downside to her powers is that the ink on her tail can run out (as can be seen by how much black is on the tip), and at this point in time, it runs out rather quickly. It only lasts for about thirty (continuous) brush strokes if she's using her ink for regular attacks. If she alternates between ink and weapon, then the ink will slowly replenish itself on its own. When the ink runs completely out, however, she can't use her ink powers anymore-- all she can do is wait for it to come back, or to replenish it on her own with some ink pot nearby, though this 'regular' ink will produce weaker 'miracles' (ten continuous brushstrokes until the ink supply depletes). It takes about fifteen minutes to get her ink 'levels' back to normal.
[character personality]: One would think upon meeting Ammy that she is no ordinary wolf. What ordinary wolf walks into a town and is friendly with the townspeople? The truth of the matter is, she isn't an ordinary wolf. She is a powerful goddess associated with the sun who takes the form of a wolf. And as such, she exhibits certain qualities that any ordinary wolf wouldn't have. Intelligence and an awareness of the events happening around her are only one part of this. Ammy can understand human words and meanings, as well as sense when they have something to say. As such, she is very in tune with another person's emotions, and is able to accurately sense what sort of mood people are in. Her kindhearted and gentle nature stem not only from this ability of empathy, but also from an innate understanding and patience with humans in general.
Despite how easily she can read complex emotions, Ammy herself has a simple and almost naive personality. As a protector of the people, she is trusting and forgiving, and has a very "happy-go-lucky spirit", as her friend Issun put it-- she's rather lazy, and is easily distracted, not to mention somewhat air-headed in her own ways. She is an optimist, never letting anything get her too down or upset, and she takes most of everything that comes her way in stride. Much like a child (or a puppy, in this case), she is cheerful, playful, and curious, always eager to learn about the world and the people around her.
But sometimes this curiosity gets her into difficult situations. Ammy, being able to read emotions well, often intrudes on other people's business out of a sense of duty as a protector, trying to fix their problems for them. Most of the time it works out for everyone in the end, but she has a horrible habit of listening in on their conversations to get information. She is too kind on occasion, as well, and willingly bears the burdens that others have given her of their own accord as well as the ones she takes up on her own.
In spite of her canine traits and innocent interfering, she truly does hold a sense of responsibility towards the people. She understands the difference between right and wrong, and the fine line in between the two. Ammy will fight tooth and nail for what she herself believes to be true and good, because she is the personification of such. The sun gives life to all that it shines on, and Ammy tries her best to embody that.

[And once the voice button is accidentally pressed again, all you can hear is barking. She barks anxiously for about half a minute. Anyone who can understand animal language will know that she's calling for someone named Issun, and asking herself where she is. Otherwise, it's dog barking to all ears that can hear it. Finally, it tapers off into a soft whine of uncertainty. A button she accidentally steps on as she walks away translates the end of her "speech".]
--sun, where could you be in this strange place?
[third person / log sample]:
There was no nature. This is what Amaterasu first keenly felt as she took a tentative step towards the large basin of flowing water in the center of the...village? Could this place be called such a thing? Its size called to mind Sei'an City but even the city was not like this. The houses-- they were too tall, too unnatural, too strange looking. The ground-- the beautiful earth and grass and dirt!-- were smothered and dead under a hard, dark substance that made her claws give harsh sounds as she walked on it, as if she were pawing against stone. Her senses could pick up the smell of kerosene that was used to light lamps, or something similar to it, except it was overwhelming and noxious and it lingered in the air-- oh, the air, so contaminated with strange substances! There was not a single bit of freshness to it, no sprites dancing on its breezes! Where was this place where she couldn't even enjoy the simple pleasure of breathing? What horrible niche in the Mother Earth was this? And in her despair, she threw back her head and let out a long, mournful howl to the heavens. At least that and the sun and moon were still intact.
It took a while to calm herself. This sudden disconnect with nature had shaken her very being, her very soul, and if she had not sensed that there were forests and mountains beyond the limits of this place, the shock might have been too great for her. Very slowly, like a timid pup waking up to the world, she took a look around.
There were people. She could see them and sense them. And though they were dressed in different clothes than what she was used to seeing, this gave her the reassurance she needed to relax a little. The humans were a species that nature had learned to co-exist with, and one that she had learned to respect and care for even as they venerated her...surely, one of their elders could explain what had happened.
Which brought her to a puzzling thought, one that she sat up on her haunches to think on, tilting her muzzle this way and that as she mused on it. Such changes could not have been done in the middle of the night. Had she died and been reincarnated again? But that was silly-- for all of Orochi's power, even he dare not attack Amaterasu in her sleep. Then...what was it? What had happened?
The wolf did not sit long to think, lowering her head and using her hind leg to scratch behind her ears as she was wont to do. She was not the kind to try and logically think things through. She was a visual learner, a being that experienced and discovered through the senses. And so, soon enough, despite being shell shocked upon the first five minutes of arriving, Amaterasu got up, shook out her fur, and let her nose dictate where she should go. She would not cower away from whatever she encountered, and she would not let darkness creep into her heart. She would brave through the strange land, and find her way back to the Nippon she knew and loved.
