"I'm going to be reaped this year, I'm going to -" Louis keeps on repeating, and Harry shushes him by kissing him. They both haven't slept the whole night, the sun is rising now and in a few hours they're going to get up to go to the reaping. It's the 74th Hunger Games and this is the last year for Louis. His name is in the big glass ball for.... well, too many times for the odds to be in his favour. But Harry kisses him and holds him under the covers and for a moment he forgets about the reaping. He forgets about District 12 hasn't won a game for twenty-four years now. Louis caresses Harry curly hair and thinks that he probably won't have the chance to do that again
Harry whispers don't worry, you won't, and smiles, and Louis tries to remember every single part of his face - the dimples when he smiles, his green eyes
Harry is younger and Harry has only one sister to help, so his name isn't in there many times. Louis has four. He's not afraid of dying, he's afraid of leaving his family behind, his unemployed mom and his little sisters who are unable to go hunting
They leave their little shelter in the middle of the woods to come back to their village to get ready for the reaping. They met there, in the woods, when they were both trying to hunt something to help their families. Louis has thought so many times about leaving with him, leaving District 12 behind - they were both able to live without anyone's help, but the problem was that everyone around them couldn't. So they stayed and every year they couldn't sleep the night before the reaping and every year Louis was sure he was going to be drawn
They walk back hand in hand, not saying a word
Louis comes back home, his sisters all hug him tight as soon as they see him on the doorstep
"We will be all together at home later, right? You won't leave us!" the younger one says. He nods, not convinced, but tries to appear strong in front oh them. He kisses all of them, and then looks at his mom, in a corner of the room, who cannot stop crying, and unlike him can't pretend to be okay in front of the kids
"You will be fine, mom, okay?" She cries even more and shakes her head in disbelief. Harry will help them, anyway. He promised him
It's the same drill every year, in the big square of District 12, the registration, the Mayor speaks, and then the drawing, made by a girl came from the Capitol. Louis looks at the big bowl, her hand digs into it, and then pulls out a single piece of paper. She clears her throat before saying it. It's the longest moment of Louis' life, he's waiting for his dead sentence to be announced to the whole District
"Harry Styles", she says into the microphone
"It will be fine, I promise," Harry whispers before leaving his side and Louis almost collapses on the ground
