State of me?

I've been watching a lot of Mushishi (the title never fails to crack me up btw. Mushi in korean means to ignore/give cold shoulder to. Random but funny.). And that one episode... It's not even that sad compared to some of the other ones (giving birth to embryotic clones of loved ones, anyone?), but that one where the girl was kidnapped by a white thread falling from the sky. And without the validation and belief of her fiance, she becomes lighter and more invisible until she disappears. The part that really got me was that the guy realized what he was doing finally, and listened to Ginko. He married thin air, ignored the gossip of his neighbors, and talked to her as if he could see her, and she finally reappeared again. He gave her substance, and she was able to come back. I absolutely adored that part. I don't even know why. (of course that got me thinking about how it can be transmogrified into Brendon/Spencer, but that's the slight problem with becoming both an anime and slash fan - Western slash doesn't slot in as neatly within anime standards. Don't even talk to me about my longing for XXXholic/Bandslash.)

Anyway, I've also been reading a lot more fiction after submerging myself in nonfiction. I've just recently read Please Look After Mom by Kyoungsook Shin, and oh my beegezus, everyone should go read this. It's amazing! Translated into English and originally written in Korean, it's beautifully done second person (I know right?? Who'd've thunk it??) Mom disappears at the subway station, and various members of the family think back on her as they search for. It alternates point of view, and it's just gorgeous. The way the author uses the language and description brings back my vague memories of Korea when I visited grandfather's farm and the memories my parents shared with us. (Oh, and the emotional guilt/love/bonds between family. Ummm, Mother's Day and Father's Day is coming up soon. >.>) Just beautiful.

Reading Life of Pi now. It's kind of startling to go from the sparse but stylized and emotional text above to something that's so densely described, but I'm enjoying it quite a bit.

Spring/Summer tour season starts soon!!! Panic and MCR!!!! How much do I adore it that Panic is touring with fun.??? An insane amount! I'm loving the two bonus songs off Panic! so much btw. "Bittersweet" confirms pretty much any bit of fanon that has been created about him --> You could tell me secrets that I'll probably repeat/
I'm not trying to hurt you/I just love to speak (Self aware, a little wry, apologetic: so well done) And the style of the song!! It reminds me a little bit of old school doowop shop, (that bit of Frank Sinatra they were talking about?), that little syncopated beat from FOB's 20 Dollar Nose Bleed (probably my fave track off that album), and his VOICE. "Stall Me" I like for different reasons - I can't get over how close to Coldplay's Viva la Vida it starts off, and then it bounces into an entirely different song in the chorus (love that - they do it quite a bit in other tracks as well).

I don't think I can devote enough time to how much I love "Nearly Witches", so pretty much every good thing you've heard about it - quadruple that to the nth power or something for me. *_* so much love.

music will save your soul, mushishi, book review, panic(!), anime, book rec
