Things to listen to: The new Black Keys album, New Roots, and new Walkmen, and fifty kazillion repeats of those fabulous killjoys and steel train.

Things to read: Just finished Eileen Wilks' newest, and I'm hesitating between my newest nonfiction (Watching the English) and re-reading the Hobbit.

\o/ I'm also done with the road challenges for Rock Band 3... hehehehehe... I get crazy obsessed about that game.

Panic... where is your new album/single/anything?

Oh, oh oh, my mom likes to present herself as a sort of princess type - never did anything wrong, butter wouldn't melt in her mouth, etc. etc. etc. However, she told me this hilarious story about her younger self which completely puts a different spin on her as a child. So I'm making her cornbread because she has cravings, and she's telling me this story of how cornbread was a really coveted thing at her school. She was in elementary school post WWII/Korean War, and there was a lot of starvation. A lot of the essential stuff for her school came from US army aid surpluses including cornmeal, sugar, dried milk, etc. The kids who were poor aka anyone who didn't own their own land would get a free lunch from the school in the form of a few pieces of cornbread. As the major landowner's daughter, she would naturally come with a packed lunch, but she always craved what the other kids were eating. Once she brought with her this really scarce rice cake, but this one kid who had promised to trade refused to do. AND SHE TOTALLY PUSHED HIM OVER AND WHALED ON HIM. I mean... this is a woman who reportedly had her brothers CARRY her to school because walking 2 miles was too much for her fragile health, etc. etc. picky eater, etc. etc.

Hilarious.

I have other stories just like this, in which she randomly tells anecdote which completely explains why my older sister is like Napolean/yakuza hidden in a tiny Asian girl form.

hehe.
