Green Day @ MSG. It was amazing amazing amazing. I don't know where the guys get their energy from. What I especially loved was the way they pulled the kids on stage and into the music. Give them a chance to strut their stuff. What's even better is that the kids BRUNG it, especially the little drummer dude who totally played this awesome riff (and got smacked in the head by Trey for showing off. lolz). Even the little scene girl sang her heart out for the audience. Awesome :DDDD
New Perspective:
Lyrics wise: Not so crazy about the weirdly shoefitted lyrics "I want my life to be comprehensive" <--- does not scan well, does not make sense, is not clever. However, it has little gems in it like, "And I would wait and watch the hours fall in a hundred separate lines" and lines like that. I loved Brendon's two songs on Pretty Odd because the words were twisty and you could look at it in different way. Depending on how you broke up the lyrics, the words would change. I love that, and I'm looking forward to hearing the rest of the new album.
Music wise: Poppy as all out hell (which is good!!) and catchy like crazy. It has humming and 'ooohs' and some vocal distortions which actually reminds me a lot of the songs I used to listen to in high school. I can dig it. I loved the acoustic version actually, so seeing them live should be awesome. I totally noticed the awesome drumming as well. Lots of stuff for Spencer to play with and engaging to my ear.
Final verdict: I'm hoping the rest of the album's a little less poppy. I love pop/punk, but it is not my primary love.
Change:
Lyric wise: Lololol somethingsomethingsomethingsomethingCATS. The parts I can understand are clever and twisty in the way they fit inside in my head and in my mouth. They make a little more sense than in Pretty Odd, and it's interesting.
Music wise: I'm loving it, but I'm kind of afraid what this will sound like live. As much as the boys talked about going old school, garage rock sound, it's pretty layered. The guitar parts are pretty cool (they used the same tricks on it, it sounds like, like they did for She's a Handsome Woman), but IDK, Ryan is not the best guitar player live, and those riffs are tricky. Will wait for judgment on that. I will say that the sound reminds me a loooot of Phantom Planet's last album - the presentation of the lyrics, the vibe, the guitar. I'd have to listen to it again, but yeah, it does. Only, this song is less poppy and up to date than PP's former sound. I listen to a lot of old school rock, and this song is really dripping in it.
Final verdict: I'm digging it, but I hope the entire album's not like this.
