If you're not a new transfer, chances are Aya knows about YOU or has grilled you with questions before. If your character has done something questionable in school, they might have even gotten an embarrassing story written about them.

(For the record, out of habit, I will be spelling her name Meiling pretty much every single time it comes up, even though on official records it's spelled as per above. OTL)

I reeeally doubt anyone Souji knows from 'home' will show up around here, but if someone wants to make the huge stretch of some long-lost childhood friend appearing, I'm down with givin' it a shot.
As for clubs... having someone(s) with way too much energy, enthusiasm, and/or desperation for new members just passing him by in the halls and saying "HEY SIGN UP" would be fun! This can be handwaved to have already happened and he just went along with it.
