2/4, sorry! xiaokaihua May 18 2011, 05:50:21 UTC
APPEARANCE: Kaihua is… well, a walking sexual crisis for a lot of heterosexual men. He's of medium height and very slender build, with fair skin, dark hair, and dark eyes (though he often wears colored contacts, just for a little excitement). He tends to dress in a way that doesn't give away a lot about his gender, but also doesn't tend to hide very much skin; more often than not Kaihua will walk around with no pants on or a midriff-baring shirt without giving it any thought. The person I'm using as Kaihua's played-by is a Chinese net idol, so here's a reference image: Here.
PERSONALITY: On the surface, Kaihua is a cocky, highly sexual teenager with a flagrant disregard for rules and distaste for authority. He can be arrogant and doesn't always think before he speaks, which often results in him insulting people-though he doesn't usually care whether or not he's just insulted someone, which only adds to the problem. This includes teachers and other authority figures. Kaihua is of the opinion that respect is earned, and if someone doesn ( ... )

AU HISTORY: Born in Beijing to the son of a high-ranking Party member, Kaihua was raised into the kind of privileged life that goes along with being the son of a politician. From early childhood he was groomed to take his father's place when he grew up, taking special classes and only being allowed to play with the children of other politicians who his father had pre-approved. His mother, too, facilitated this constricted life, and didn't have much of a role in his upbringing, instead leaving most of the work to a series of nannies throughout Kaihua's life. However, as Kaihua grew older he began to grow disillusioned with the Chinese political scheme, preferring instead the more democratic regime of Taiwan, something which obviously alarmed both his mother and his father ( ... )

SAMPLES
INTRANET/1ST PERSON SAMPLE:
[the intranet post is a video one, featuring one (1) asian… boy? girl? wearing, it seems, nothing but a lush-looking kimono style silk robe. (s)he takes a long draw on the cigarette between his/her fingers, then blows it at the camera, raising one eyebrow.]

[when (s)he speaks, his/her voice indicates either a throaty female voice or a high-pitched male voice.]

Is this really all you can do for fun around here? [spoken with clear disdain dripping from each world.] Congratulations, you can use the word "cuntsmear" in a sentence. Do you want a cookie?

[another drag on the cigarette, and kaihua props him/herself up on one arm, flicking ash off the edge of his/her bed.]

But I guess I shouldn't expect too much from you. [a delicate snort.] The better question is, who holds the best parties around here?

LOG/3RD PERSON SAMPLE:The administrative peon, upon noticing the pack of cigarettes sticking out of the top of Kaihua's pocket, had taken great pains to inform him that the school had a strict zero- ( ... )

APPLICATION DENIED
After reading over and discussing your application, we have decided that we cannot accept your application at this time for the following reasons:
  • The personality falls very much on the short side, especially for an original character. The majority of it focuses on the character's sexuality while still not giving a clear picture as to what it is, making him come across as a rather one-note character. There should be more that can be said about who he is and how he acts outside of this trait. In addition, the personality mentions various complexities that are not given adequate attention or detail. This section would need to be expanded, and discussion of the other aspects of the character should be added.
  • The personality section also contradicts itself by emphasizing how the character strives to get attention through his sexuality, yet also states directly that he doesn't want attention. This makes it very confusing and hard for us to judge the character's true motivations.
  • The Intranet/1st Person Sample is too ( ... )

In some ways, I can understand this rejection. In other ways, I don't, necessarily. For example, if you expect more than the "three to four substantial paragraphs" that you ask for in the page above, it would be helpful if you specified that. I don't think it's fair to list one thing as a requirement, and then rejecting people for not going above and beyond the requirement you listed ( ... )
