I hope this seat isn't taken.
[ One stranger is better than a bunch of them. And it sucks being a transfer student, isn't it? ]

Not very chatty?
[ She'd managed to prod his curiosity and it's probably a prologue. He can't just go ahead and ask like some nosy jerk, right? But that's not his only reason - he's probably trying to break the ice as well. ]

That's okay. [ He'll take that as a "yes". ] I'm not the chatty type either.
[ He's more chatty than her, it seems. Somehow. He had no idea that it's possible. He stared at her for a while before resuming eating. ]
What are you writing? If it's okay to ask. If not, don't mind me.
[ Shrugs. ]

My best friend lives in China.
[ weird way to answer a question, but Yufu obviously seems to think it's good enough. she takes another bite of her sandwich and continues writing. ]

And you're...writing something to her?
[ The words were accompanied by a raised eyebrow, and he drank some water before leaning back on his seat. His gaze were fixed on her. It's hard to tell what he was thinking or feeling, though. ]

... and eating her sandwich. and quite possibly making things more awkward. ]

Why not sent her an e-mail?
[ It's infinitely more practical to him, but there is a certain...feeling with writing letters, and he can understand that. He tore away his gaze after the question, effectively putting an end to the awkward staring contest. He's going to glance around instead, trying to spot anything interesting. Anything else that's interesting, anyway, because she managed to caught his interest. ]

[ oh, good, it's not so awkward anymore. staring contest over. she continues to eat in-between talking to him, though there isn't much talking going on over on her end of the conversation. ]

[ That gives him an idea. Maybe he should try to send a letter some time instead of e-mail to his best friend back home in Norway. But it's impractical, and god only knows how much Eiríkur loves technology. And hates impracticality, but with him, it's never certain. One day he might declare how much he loathed letters, the next day, you'll find him writing one.
Silence falls. He wished he'd bring a book. He finished off his drink and pulled out his iPod. Not sure if he's going to listen to it, though, since he's still expecting her to continue their conversation. ]

[ and she'll put down her sandwich and continue writing her letter. ]

What's your name?
[ This is like. The awkwardest situation of them all. He doesn't even know why he's still staying and trying. Probably because he's sort-of pitied her. He would say that he had never seen her around before, but he'd just transferred a short while ago, so maybe he just haven't ran into her. ]
