[It starts with Fuji eying a pokeball contemplatively. He gets up from his seat, apparently entirely unaware that the feed is running, and turns to the side as though addressing someone else in the room just beyond the scope of the video feed --]

-- say, could I borrow a screwdriver?

[The feed abruptly ends ( Read more... )

How thoughtful of you, but since I don't know how long I'm staying, a housewarming gift isn't really necessary. [He does seem awfully amused, though.] However, I do like green.

I'd prefer to pick out my own racket, anyway. It's important to get one that's right for you.

Well, it never hurts to be prepared for the possibility. [A chuckle.] But since 'green' has the stamp of your approval, I'll send it over via a purple owl.

If it doesn't drop it halfway there. I hope not, but you never know.

Thank you, that's very kind of you. I'm not entirely used to pokemon postal carriers, I must admit. [He laughs at the thought.]

By the way, it seems like time is... different, here. Or rather, I've arrived at a different time of the year than I left. Is that true?

I was surprised when a giant bird landed on my windowsill and started gouging out the wood with its claws for the first time, I won't lie. But it does save on the postage.

And it's true. Well, as true as it can be, at any rate. This place does weird things to time and it's not very apologetic. What month was it when you left?

I'd imagine it must. What do you pay the birds in? Bird seed?

When I left, it was August. It's much too cold here for that, unless the climate here is very different than Japan. What month is it here?

By the bucket-load. They really are large birds. [Joking? Probably.

Maybe.]

March, if we go by the calendars. But, well, to be fair, this could be somewhere off the coast of Australia, and the calendars are just there to muddle the fact.

March, really? [That seems to startle him. That's quite a bit of a jump in time, after all.] Hmm. Then I must have missed a lot.

I'm not sure even Australia has animals like these.

Point, but maybe that's what they want us to think. [A chuckle.]

Has Niou explained to you how the timelines work?

Yes, I suppose it's possible that Australia's been lying to the world this whole time. [He laughs as well.]

No, he hasn't explained that yet. Would you mind telling me?

What can I say? Australia is a sneaky country.

And not at all-- it's actually pretty straightforward, as time paradoxes go. While we're here, the time back in our home world doesn't flow. Well, in a manner of speaking, anyway -- because people do get returned periodically, and always at the time where they left off.

It makes this kind of like a bit of a vacation outside of time.

I've always thought there was something a bit shifty about it.

Hmm, I think that was mentioned to me - at least, some of it. In a way, I suppose, it's relaxing. There's nothing at home that I need to worry about. Presumably, if I'm sent back I'll still arrive on time for practice. Which is very good - who know what nonsense they might get up to without me.

I agree. Somewhere that breeds jumping rats with pouches like it's a normal thing can't be entirely kosher.

And, yes, well, with someone as interesting as Niou on your team, I can imagine that. Do you have any horror stories to share?

That brings up even more questions about this place we've found ourselves in.

As his captain, I'm not at liberty to share any horror stories. [But oh, he has them. He has so many.] I can say that Niou is always very... entertaining.

I'm not sure if I mind the questions. They're something to think about.

[A laugh.] He is. Being in a different world doesn't necessarily change anything, but it does give us more opportunities to get to know people you otherwise wouldn't have thought of.

Perhaps we'll even be able to find some answers someday - though I'm not counting on that.

[Yukimura smiles slightly, eyeing Fuji.] You're right about that. To think we'd never really talked before, and you're so interesting. Considering that and your tennis skills, maybe I should try to recruit you.

You could try. [A sliver of blue -- that's all it is.] I'm certainly glad that someone like me could catch the attention of the captain of Rikkai. It's very flattering.
