Ah, I think I just heard the sound of a volunteer.

The sound of your own voice, maybe.

You're right, I like hearing myself speak.

Yes, well, I'm just generally sneaky like that.

How was settling in? Exciting?

... Yeah, because being stuck in the middle of nowhere with a goddamn reindeer for company is just exploding with excitement.

It could be worse. The reindeer could be a rhino. It could fly.

... Don't tell me there's actually a flyin' rhino Pokemon or some shit like that.

Then, I won't. But there is a flying hunk of metal that squawks like a bird. ... or maybe it's a bird that screeches like a hunk of metal. I was never too sure on that, actually.

... The hell?

[He pauses.]

On second thought, this is freakin' Pokemon we're talkin' about, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised, you know?

... How the hell does something screech like metal, though?

I would make some reference to heavy metal as a genre, but I think that might be an insult to the bird. [Amiably. He's joking, really. Maybe.]

But if you've ever been at a construction site, you'd know what I mean. If the steel graters aren't aligned properly before they're lifted off the ground, it makes the sort of sound you hear in nightmares.

That'd be more interesting than it just repeating its goddamn name over and over again, if you ask me.

Nails-on-the-chalkboard kind of thing?

Oh, I don't know. Pokemon are pretty much masters are conveying meaning through inflection. You can be surprised at how much they can pack into a single 'mis mis'.

[A hum.] Times seven.

Doesn't change the fact that it's as irritating as hell.

[... Ha. If he'd said nine, Santa probably would've laughed.]

Surprised you didn't go deaf from that.

On the bright side, saying their names over and over again is a bit better than, say, copying everything you say and repeating them at inopportune moments.

[Oh Santa <3]

And yes, well, I wouldn't have liked it very much if I did. After all, I wouldn't be able to hear myself speak, if I went deaf.
