Vurt Ninjas 5

Nov 07, 2005 14:23

I finally figured out a plot for this story, so it's no longer the shameless smushing together of Jeff Noon's universe and Kishimoto's characters. I'm kind of proud of this.
Vurt Ninjas 5, the backstory chapter: or, how Naruto introduced Sasuke and Sakura to each other in the worst way possible.

Sakura and Sasuke's first bonding experience was beating the crap out of Naruto. )

I actually went out and borrowed Pollen because of you. Do you mean to say you actually got me hooked on an author you haven't even read yet? (is completely disgusted with self)

Shadow people are people who were born from a coupling between someone high on Fecundity 10 and a corpse. They're the products of necrophilia. There are two types: Shadowgirls and Shadowboys. Shadowgirls are fairly normal, except they control the 'Smoke' which is the shadow of death in all people. This means they're the equivalent of telepaths. Shadowboys are Zombies, literally. They have rotting flesh, no cool powers, look half-dead and not all of them are actually capable of coherent thought. They are registered with the Civil Serpents of Manchester and exiled from the city into Limbo. Sasuke is way too pretty to be a Shadowboy. Characterizing him as a Robo would probably work though.

Social Ladder:
Pures
Vurt/Shadowgirls (I can't remember which)
Shadowgirls/Vurt (whichever it is, the other one goes here)
Robo
Dogs
Zombies

Oh, and Robos, Dogs, Cats, Ultrakids and Nebuli were supposedly products of some bad gene manipulation. Haven't read that part yet though, I'll admit.

Sorry about the post, but I just could not see Sasuke as a Zombie.

....

*whistle* This is what happens when I don't research crack ideas ahead of time. (Though, considering his clan is all dead, suddenly it does seem to fit better than I thought....)

(I've read Vurt! It's just that I thought that was the only Jeff Noon book--I didn't know there were more until I first started writing this and started looking for websites since I didn't have my copy with me, and then I never remembered to look for his stuff when I was in a bookstore. So, not technically?)

Damn, though. Was I off about the Smokers too, or can they still function relatively normally in society? I doubt I'll rewrite this thing, since this is just a crack fic for my spare time, but if I can make it slightly more believable by just saying his mother was a Shadowgirl and his dad a Pure, that would be better.

Gah, shame on me. v.v (Thank you so much for telling me all this, though! I never would have known otherwise.)

I think all the Smokers are girls though, which still doesn't work. There were a few almost human-Zombies in Pollen but you could still tell with them and they were still in Limbo. And the main character was a Shadowgirl, but her son (concieved with a pure) was still a Zombie (described as a lump of flesh which really isn't that nice an image).

I don't know. I still think you should keep Sasuke a Robo; they're not that high on the social ladder, they have difficulty maintaining human emotions and some are mentally unstable.

Arg, dammit. Maybe if I say his mother was a smoker and dad a Pure and Sasuke's some extremely rare genetic quirk, which is why he caught Orochimaru's attention in the first place....

*snerk* Maybe if I just say it's my mistake but I'm stubborn.

I never thought of making him a Robo, though, since I posted the first part of this about the same time that Askerian posted her furry-Naruto/android-Sasuke fic. Actually, I think she posted first, which is why I looked for something else to make Sasuke, so that it wouldn't look like I was leeching details as well as just the generic cyberpunk idea from her. It would be a lot easier and more fitting, you're right about that, but still....

Maybe like Naruto he's got a strain of Vurt in him. Vurt doesn't follow reality, and Sakura needs him to jerk out . . . now my memory is going fuzzy. Or he could be an exchange of some sort, like Persephone. Someone's dream of a male Smoker. That would incorporate Sakura's reaction to him. Smoke+Male Body=Zombie, but he's not really a Zombie.

...ooh.

That exchange idea--that could work. I was toying with an idea of Sasuke's mother being too obsessed with the Vurt and eventually disappearing into it, but I had been thinking of that as a way it might have skewed him rather than him being the exchange.

Do the exchanges age? The only one I know of besides that blob thing that they got for Desdemona was the one with Tristan (was that Persephone?), but I don't remember if there was ever a statement that she aged along with him.

Actually, no, I'm not sure that would work (and I've already pestered you too much with questions--thank you for being patient about it, eheh. it's my own fault for always forgetting my book at home). If he were already a Vurt creature, a dream snake bite wouldn't affect him, right, and I need him to get bit for the plot.
The strain of Vurt should work, though. If it was tempered by coming through his mother, that might be explainable...if the Vurt can be inherited. Though, considering all the other weird genetic stuff....

I am so in over my head, augh, Sasuke why must you always create difficulty wherever you go. >(

I almost forgot. Near the end of Pollen one of the characters has sex with and gets pregnant from a Vurt creature. Unfortunately, I don't think Noon ever followed up on the child, so we don't know what happened to it. But, that's another way to get around Sasuke. And Mikoto could still disappear, after all if she was obsessed enough to get pregnant . . .

I'm not sure if exchanges age. Most of them aren't quite . . . animate I guess the word would be. Persephone was alive and sentient, but she didn't last more than a week before having to return to the Vurt.
