Given the event I'm attempting to write, I was bound to shoot myself in the foot sooner or later.
Basically, The Unveiling was supposed to occur on the same day as this part (taking place after these events, actually), but I separated it in order to submit it to
theavatar100. The problem is that it was based on the plan I originally had, and that plan got

She's 15 years old and freakishly clever. Are there any mistakes this girl has made? (Besides, maybe, allowing Iroh to live? Oh yes, and good that she has her eye on Long Feng. And Zuko - so clever of him to acknowledge the tea patron first, at least somewhat disarming)

Letting Iroh live is the main one, since her reasoning could be avoided simply by making it look like he died in an earthbending incident and claiming it was self-defense on the agents' parts--but considering that they captured him alive after he dropped his guard once Aang and Katara escaped, she probably does have some plan for him (insurance, most likely, or because she's afraid of being accused of treading too far on Ozai's power in case he found out the truth).
But there's also the fact that she really should have been sending the bulk of the soldiers out of the city the previous two days, under some pretense or another--but I hadn't thought things out as extensively then, so that's more a mistake on my part than hers. *sheepish grin*
Thank you!

All I can say is that I never dug as deep a hole for my good guys as you've done for yours. Which, of course, makes it that much harder to figure out a way out of without then making your villian look suddenly like an idiot.
Azula's weak spots, as I see them? Her trust in Mai and Ty Lee. Zuko (we've been there, done that, along with Iroh who is just enough more awesome than Azula to prevail with assistance). And I still think Long Feng will come out a surprising hero in the end. Of course, for all the wrong reasons.
I do love this story. You rock for all the right reasons. (Really, who expects a fuckin' 15 year-old to have all the angles figured out? My elderly wisdom is highly offended - which may explain in part my dependence on Iroh!)

Ty Lee was the obvious defect, so it has to end up being Mai. After all, what is she serving, anyway, besides self-interest? And her self-interest is so obviously conflicted!
But Long Feng! Oh yes, I still reside great hopes in him doing the final good deed. And, frankly, I think he deserves to rule the stupid city. I'm a firm believer in a meritocracy, and talk about earning your oats!
As for Azula? More power to research, babe. And what were Caesar's famous last lines? Et tu?
Oh but, please get them back to a confrontation with Ozai first!
