bonjour, mes amis!
that's enough french for me right now. my mom and i had an absolutely divine visit to paris. our hotel was a few blocks from the eiffel tower. i had forgotten how truly spectacular it is.
on our first day, we went up to monmartre. we stopped for lunch where i had the worst moules frites i have ever laid eyes upon. they looked as if they had been sitting in a pot on a stovetop for several days while the broth evaporated, leaving withered bits of onion clinging to the mangled meat inside. luckily when the waitress took them away, i remembered how to say 'these were really dry" in my best high school french. our nutella crepe was on the house (and delicious). on our way back to the hotel, i seemed to have been struck with a tranq dart and fell sound asleep on the metro. after a nap, we had a little dinner in our room of baguette, brie, boursin and wine and promptly went back to bed for about 12 hours (no joke).
the next day we had lunch at a little restaurant called 'cafe mucha' which was very art nouveau. that was where i had my first chocolate mousse of the day. then we went to the musee d'orsay. it was lovely. then it was on to the galleries lafayette in montparnasse and finally to monoprix where i got some chapstick and mustela baby perfume.
we had dinner at another cafe, i had roast duck which i'd never even think of ordering here. i was delish and then more mousse for me.
on the flight home, i watched 'city of ember' which was a cute kids movie, 'catch me if you can' and half of 'philidelphia' believe it or not, i'd never seen either of those films. i got to sit in first class both ways which was utterly decadent. and speaking of which, my dad had told me to keep an eye out for a birthday gift on the trip. i didn't see anything in paris but on the way home i found this in InStyle. and after running it by him first, he told me i could get it. it's sterling silver mixed with rose gold and it looks luminous. i can't wait till it arrives!
thank you mom for a superb long weekend and all the treasured memories we made and thank you dad for the ring. i am so very lucky.
