hello and good morning to you!
i took the day off yesterday to attend a taping of 'who wants to be a millionaire' and to try out to be a contestant. kory and i overslept and barely made it in time to meet my mom and dad who were waiting in line. since kory and i rushed out of the house my mom offered me a sip of her skinny latte. i declined because due to the ubiquitous coral ring around the lid i dIdn't want to drink a mouthful of her lipstick. she later brought us each a giant cookie that was revlon-free and delicious.
we all filled out our applications. one question was, 'you'll never believe this but one time.....'
my answer was 'i got a monkey stuck on my head in mexico. my mom thought it was hysterical. me, 11 years old, clad in nothing but a bathing suit... not so much.'
later, my father was briefly detained for attempting to bring 3 swiss army knives and a pair of pliers through the metal detector at abc studios. he was incredulous that his contraband (weapons) were confiscated for safe keeping because he always travels with such tools on his person. aaaaaanyways.
he proceeded to answer every single question aloud, whether or not they were correct and bristled when he was heckled by the comedian who was there to keep the crowd's energy up. he was also shocked that he did not pass the test to audition and then convinced himself that is was rigged. and wondered why the producers didn't call on him because he had such a great rapport with the comedian. aaaanyways.
my favorite moment of the day was when kory looked at his 'who wants to be a millionaire' pencil they gave us to take the test with and he said, 'who wants to be a millionaire??? who wants to be a SOUVENIR?'
then we went out for lunch and walked my mom down to port authority. while my dad trotted off to a voice lesson.
it was a lovely day. then i took my zelda fitzgerald biography to the bar near our house, drank a few beers in the dim light and went home and took a bath.
