Vastlakukkel... *giggle*

Shrove tuesday is here! Ok, tomorrow. Not that I would care shit about the days real, religious meaning, no. What I do care about is semlaa! Yesterday I didn't even know that the traditional Shrove tuesday pastry got such and mystical heaing name in English. Sweet. Basically, to people who do not know what the hell semla is, it is cardamom-spiced wheat bun cut in half like hamburger and filled with whipped cream and almond paste or jam. I'm not sure if almond paste is creation of devil or something, but it sure tastes like it so I go with jam. I baked some semla yesterday and just like my last mudcake they did not exactly be succesfull what comes to the aesthetical side, but taste was perfect!

Vastlakukkel is the semla's name in Estonian. Hilarious sounding name. Like Finnish and Estonian are relative languages, and how most of Estonian language sounds to Finnish speaking at the same time very familiar, but at the same time funny; I've always wondered what it feels like as speaker of some more wide spoken langauge, to listen someone speak other langauge from the same langauge family. Like, does it sound familiar but funny to other people too, no matter the langauge family their mother tongue is?

Ooook. Rather deep thinking from me once again. Holiday pastries and linguistics....
