Most members of the intelligence department worked in a very large room that had ten rows of five computers and a giant screen that acted as the fourth wall. Each computer was in its own stall, to give a sense of privacy for the workers. Jen had her own room that could on be entered through this room, as the machine she was normally connected to was too big to be out in the open. My own workplace was right in the middle of the room, where I could be easily reached by everyone.
I had come in today to check up on everyone, and was greeted rather enthusiastically by them; it had take a few years, but my co-workers had learned that no, I was not going to kill everyone. Krystal had given me a tight hug, Jen had a few tears in her eyes, Rochelle shook my hand, and Jeremy wailed loudly. It was nice to know that I was missed.
Krystal had been telling me about this guy Jen had met (with the younger girl protesting loudly that the redhead should not be mentioning that and no I do not like himmmmm) when Vincent burst through the doors. Dark clouds were gathered around him as he stalked over to me.
Suddenly, I found myself alone with him, as the others had quickly retreated.
“What is it?” I asked, brows furrowing. He was shaking; from what, I did not know. Anger?
“They recruited Drew,” he growled out.
Ah. So this was about that. I had known that she would be next to join our ranks, but I only wished it wasn’t so soon. However, maybe it was for the best, since I didhave that deadline…
I let out a heavy sigh. “I know. We had a meeting about the new recruits a few days ago.”
Even if I was on vacation, I still had to go to those meetings.
Vincent glared. There was a startled cry somewhere near us when a mug fell to the floor from the shaking that was happening. “Which department is she in?”
“…field.”
“Transfer her somewhere else,” he demanded. It was unlike the earth manipulator to be this emotional, but when it came to Drew, reason often flew out his mind. I wondered when he would acknowledge his feelings. “Have her go to where Nina is or something.”
“Unfortunately, the science and research department does not require someone who can manipulate water,” I commented, clasping my hands together on my lap. I hoped he would calm down, or else there might be a full-blown earthquake soon. “Nor does my department or the security department.”
His glare did not faze me, and he was the first to look away. “…can’t you do something?”
“Sadly, no, as I am not the commander of your department,” I informed, taking out my tablet. I had to write to the other commanders not to worry about the shaking.Vincent’s control is shaky when he is emotional. “My jurisdiction is only among the intelligence department. You will have to trust that Drew can make it.”
He sighed heavily, the shaking stopping as his anger had simply melted away. I heard sighs of relief from everyone. “Damn.”
“I can put in a word that she be paired up with you and Jace, if you wish,” I said quietly. I glanced at my tablet to see the replies from the others.
I’ve sent Jason Lee over to collect him.
I’ll bill Paul for the equipment damaged then~
Understood.
“Would that be acceptable, Vincent?” I asked.
“It’s the only option, isn’t it?” he said, running a hand through his hair.
“Very well. I will suggest it to Spanner.” I looked past his shoulder to the person who just entered. “Jace is here to escort you back.”
Vincent turned around and Jace nodded as a greeting once he stood next to the earth manipulator. The bespectacled boy nodded back before turning back to me. “Alright then. We have a mission briefing in fifteen minutes.”
“Oh?” I tilted my head to the side. “Have fun then.”
“As long as Noah appears,” Jace said quietly. “Our fight was interrupted last time.”
“This boy,” Vincent said with an eyeroll. He grabbed his head and shook him lightly. “Don’t be so rash. What would Madison say if you were hurt?”
“I will be sad,” I added lightly, my lips shaking from trying to keep a straight face.
Jace blinked. “…I don’t want that.”
“Then be careful,” Vincent grumbled. “I’m tired of having to cover for you while you’re off on your personal vendetta.”
“I just want to hurt him. Is that bad?”
“It is if you ignore everyone else who is in the mission.” The earth manipulator groaned loudly. “Why do you have such a one track mind?”
I smiled as I watched them leave. It was nice to be with friends again.
