This is precisely why I do not read character-death. No, let me re-phrase that. This is precisely why I tell myself not to read fics that host character death (but sometimes end up reading them anyway). "If You Are Prepared" by

I'm still a bit stunned. A bit numb, too. It was a really powerful read. Even so, that's exactly how I like my Snarry (minus the character death). That slow build up, that tension, the complications and angst and bittersweetness and passion... that's exactly how I like my Snarry. I like their relationship to be hard and trying and painful before it gets better. All that history and animosity between them wants for a slow, torturous resolve.
Thanks so much for the links! I really need a good pick-me-up.
I did, it was really good and it hurt so much! Canon can be sad, let fic be happy. Except sometimes a sad story begs to be told and it's so great and so lethal all at once.
I agree with everything you said. I read that story at least a year ago and it still sneaks up on me at times and gets me. I read so much fanfiction that a lot of it just runs together but there are a handful of stories that really stand out in my memory and that is definitely one of them! I hate sad endings but that is one of only two I've read that I felt the ending really needed to be that way to make the story perfect.

Yes. I've been constructing a recommendation community with an extensive tagging system, and you wouldn't believe how frustrating it is going back to my old rec lists only to realize that I can't remember what happened in most of them.
The story was wonderful. Just thinking about it, even days later, makes me very sad.

I remember how devastated I was when I read If You Are Prepared - beautiful, amazing, but heartbreaking story. *sobs*
I'm reccing you my funniest Snarrys:
"Obsession Number Three"
"Pygmy Pugg"
"Careful What You Wish For"
None of these are very long.

Unhappy endings should be a fan fiction taboo. That's what canon is for, right? Right.
