Delighting in Your Company by scheherezhad
Rating: PG
Summary: Merry effin' Christmas.
Dislcaimer: Don't own, making no money, please don't sue.
Author's notes: This is my [insert holiday of your choice] gift to kahn and nightwalker. Kelly asked, Sonnet challenged, Yusukemuse got yappy...and this is what happened. It's...something.
Feedback: Aw, yeah, baby. Give it to me.

Yusuke had always hated being confused. It wasn't so much that not knowing stuff bothered him-if it did, he'd have studied or done homework or something once in a while. No, what bothered him was not knowing what was going on.

Unfortunately, that had been happening pretty much on a daily basis since the first time he died. Most of it seemed to revolve around a certain redhead who appeared determined to be the most infuriatingly strange person it was possible to be. The rest of the world seemed to think Kurama was normal by their various definitions, so apparently he had chosen Yusuke as the sole recipient of his bizarre attentions.

He came to visit Yusuke in the Makai fairly often, to check up on him and bring news and a few luxuries from home. He also tended to take advantage of the fact that he was stealthy and Yusuke was oblivious. On no less than three separate occasions, Yusuke had woken up in entirely different locations than where he'd gone to sleep. Twice, he'd come back to his room to find it transmuted into a jungle.

Then there was Kurama's habit of slipping unusual items into the care packages he brought. Yusuke had learned to unpack them warily, unsure of what he'd find with his cigarettes and junk food. Last time had been cactus-flavored chewing gum, and the time before that was a bottle of nipple-lightening cream.

Kurama found it hilarious.

And, well, okay. Maybe it was kind of funny, in a tilt-your-head-and-squint sort of way. Yusuke didn't really make a big deal out of the whole ritual because he figured that Kurama probably needed to let loose around somebody, or he'd go crazy from being Shuuichi all the time back home.

This particular morning, at least, waking up confused turned out not to be such a bad thing. The first thing that he saw when he woke up was a glob of colored lights in the corner, and after he'd blinked a few times, they resolved themselves into a string of lights on a...well, not exactly a Christmas tree, but a reasonable facsimile.

Underneath the tree was a small pile of cheery boxes. The one wrapped in bubblegum pink paper had to be from Botan. Next to it was Keiko's; he recognized the cutesy stamps she used to decorate plain paper. He guessed the one with the knot of ribbon pretending to be a bow was probably from Kuwabara. There were others, but he was too tired to sort them out yet. Instead, Yusuke sighed and rolled over. Kurama was stretched out on the other side of the bed, watching him and smiling slightly.

"What time is it?" Yusuke asked him.

"Early. The sun isn't up yet."

Yusuke sighed. "I hadn't realized it was Christmas already." Time seemed different here in the Makai. He wouldn't have any idea what was going on in the Ningenkai without Kurama's visits.

Kurama scooted closer. "Everyone misses you," he said, and he pushed his fingers under Yusuke's arm.

"Fuck! Your hands are freezing."

He smiled. "I'm warming them up now."

Neither of them spoke for a while after that. Yusuke closed his eyes and rubbed Kurama's fingers to warm them up, and maybe also because he liked touching Kurama's skin but didn't get to do it near often enough. After a while, Kurama nudged him out of his doze.

"Yusuke?"

"What?"

"You're under the mistletoe."

And Kurama leaned in and kissed him.

Yusuke looked up and saw a canopy of green leaves over the bed. "You are pure evil." He paused to lick his lips. "Pure, wildberry-flavored evil."

"Now with thirty percent less sugar."

"I told you to stop eating my PopTarts," Yusuke grumbled, swinging a pillow at Kurama.

He caught it and tucked it under his head. "I'm the one who brings them to you. Consider it a handling fee."

"I hate you."

"No, you don't."

Yeah, he really didn't. But still. "Gah. I'm going back to sleep now. You can finish being weird when it's a reasonable hour." Kurama snorted in amusement, and Yusuke burrowed under the covers. He lay with his eyes closed for a few minutes before speaking again. "We are gonna have sex later, right?"

"Mm."

"That's not an answer." He could hear Kurama smirking. "I really do hate you."

"Merry Christmas, Yusuke."

"Merry effin' Christmas."
