In Memoriam, Rosie J. Diampon

One of my former students passed away this morning. She's from the first batch of BA Communication Arts students of the University. She is twenty-four when she gave in to her battle with TB of the brain. She got it from one of her UP Pahinungod missions, one that she favored over a corporate life. She was already working for one of the most successful businessmen in Davao City when she decided to do volunteer work for UP Pahinungod. Now she's gone.

She's not my favorite student. We were not even really very close. Still, the news of her demise rendered me still for a few moments. I've never had a student who died.

I even got the chance to visit her sometime last year before Christmas. She was still coherent. She still knew me. But from time to time, she would have lapses and we all had to talk to her like we would talk to a five-year-old girl.

She always had a cheerful smile. I guess that's what I would most about her.
