Hi flist ! not posted in a long time, as usual... But hey, it's the occasion, right ? ^^
I've been on holiday for more than a week now, but I haven't really had the time to relax, and I go back to work on thursday.
We went to my husband's mother in Marseille for Christmas, and stayed there until friday. We would have slept better at home, I think - Alice was insecure in this unknown place, so she was hard to get to sleep some days.
The night we got back was horrible :
- the apartment was atrociously cold
- Alice kept us awake a big part of the night : she was insecure because of the changes, and she's teething
- hence, we barely slept.
On saturday morning, I went shopping, mostly for the party planned for new year's eve at home. Even if I was so tired I almost sent an email to my guests to say "party cancelled, too tired". I went to bed at 9 PM, Alice just awoke once to eat and went back to sleep immediatly. Slept well, almost twelve hours.
And yesterday... it was a big rush, all day long.
Woke up early, had breakfast, fed Alice, dressed quickly, and went shopping again - for the fresh vegetables this time, plus a couple of things at the supermarket. Then I started to cook, and I cooked for the rest of the day, until my guests arrived and even after.
There was a big buffet with all kinds of toasts, including foie gras, raw vegetables with a cottage cheese sauce, small sausages, dried fruit... The guests had brought things to drink - mostly fruit juice and cider, nobody being into alcohol, I made a small punch with the rum I already had.
After that, the main course was duck filet in a honey sauce, with pommes sarladaises (a mix of potatoes and mushrooms, sauteed in goose grease) and melted endives with butter.
Finally I had made a cake and a fruit salad for dessert ; the cake was for Hoa's birthday, since she's born of the first of january (had no time to buy her a proper present though).
There were eleven of us, so preparing all this had taken quite some time, but everyone enjoyed the food, I was quite happy ^^
In between eating, we played games. First Buzz, a funny musical quizz, then Guitar Hero (with two guitars ^^), then we tried the two card games one of the guests had just offered me :
- first, Chabadabada is a pretty simple game in which you have to find songs with a given word in them. Divided in two teams, each team on turn has to find a song and sing it with one of the two words on the card in it. One of the words is in French, the other in English, and while it seems easy at first, it's really not (and to have someone with
flo_nelja's memory in your team is a big advantage :P )
- then, Time is Up ; the aim is to make your partner guess names of real of fictional persons ; during the first round you can speak freely, during the second you can only say one word, on the first you can only mime. The fun thing is, the same forty cards are used for the three rounds, so it's as much a question of memory as culture. Each player only has 30 seconds to make his partner guess as much as possible, so it's very quick and fun and keeps you awake at 5 in the morning without needing too much of a brain.
It was around 6 and a half in the morning when everyone left.
Alice had slept through the night without being too much disturbed by all the noise we were making. So at 7 and a half, she woke up hungry, and she hasn't slept for the next three hours (she's just dozed off at the moment).
As you may guess, I haven't slept.
And I don't feel that tired. I guess I got some training since the last time I had a sleepless night.
Once again, happy new year everyone !
