A fangirl post for a change
A few days ago, flammechant launched a cosplay group for the next Epitanime : a Utena group. I just couldn't resist and signed up for Kozue, in her duelist uniform.
As a result, I spent a kinda big part of the last two days re-watching this series I love.
Okay, not the whole series. I've seen the first arc too many times already, so I skipped it and began at episode 14. And I also skipped the silly Nanami episodes, not because I don't like them, but because I was not in the mood for pure silliness. But the rest I did watch until the end. Religiously.
Utena is one of the few series I can re-watch like that. Because even if you know the story, the way it's told is so exceptionnal, I fall for it everytime.
Yes, I know, the episodes are repetitive in structure. But fairy tales always are - and Utena is a fairy tale, even if a very twisted one. And inside this structure, there's room for imagination and variations. The student council gatherings would be boring with straightforward storytelling, but all these nonsensical things happening around the characters, who don't seem to notice ? just hilarious. And I love the shadow girls.
I'm in love with the visual style, the directing, the music... it's difficult to find a series with so many qualities, so much ensemble.
The first time I watched the series, I was fangirling over Tôga. But the more I watch it, the more I love Anthy - episode 34 makes me want to cry each time ;_;
